O2 Sim not working. Help needed.

Help needed. Got a New O2 for Xmas. Put in the sim that came with it. Get the message. sos only. Tried to regester sim online and get this message.
The mobile number you have entered is not showing as active on our database.
Anyone know how I can activate it?
PS tried a friends O2 sim in it. His wiorks ok so I an fitting the sim Correctly.

not sure if yours is the same but my granddaughters phone i had to top up first to activate it.my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0
