How much have you spent in the sales?

If you are having money problems don't be tempted by the sales. If you are working through your money problems, this is the time of year to go off the straight and narrow and undo your hard work.
You'll only buy things you don't really NEED.
Remember, a bargain is only a bargain if you set out to buy a certain thing and get it cheaper than anywhere else or with something thrown in for free.
This is not only a money saving site - it is also a money SPENDING site - and if you look at the shopping boards you may be tempted to splurge.
If temptation is already getting too much, or you have already given in - take another look at your most recent statements on what you owe for that refreshing kick up the backside - and hopefully this will keep you on track.

Couldn't agree more, I hate the shops at this time of year.0
-
Well I feel bad because I had £140 of vouchers and I spent them by putting an extra £80 to them and getting myself a PSP (as well as breakfast in McDs and 2 taxi journeys. I just feel so bad now
Also I noticed that the shops were empty more or less round our neck of the woods. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
well i have visted the sales and have only spent £20 and that was put towards a refund on my broken mp3 player (brought in november). I brought a better one for only £50 the old one cost £30.
to be honest there was nothing i wanted in the sales and i knew i wanted to but a little more in my savings this month0 -
have spent £60 worth of boots points on prezzies0

I got a Winnie the Pooh hot water bottle cover in the sale today for my little girl. I paid for it using vouchers gained from a well known survey company.
That's about as moneysaving as I've got this Christmas unfortunately.
Staying away from the sales now.Herman - MP for all!0 -

No need to feel bad if its something you wanted and you can afford to buy
But I agree with the sentiments of the OP, if you feel you can do without something at full price then you can equally do without it when its half price.
I went to have a look at the sales threads that started on Christmas Day and couldn't believe the amounts that people were spending on sales goods online in the name of bargainsProbably half of it will end up on Ebay and the gifts supposedly bought for next Christmas will be lost by then or the recipient changed their taste
I will treat myself to something nice from my Boots points as I like to spend them on something I wouldn't normally buy for myself, Badedas is reduced I think so that is looking favourite0 -

I kinda done the same thing as you!! I had £50 of vouchers.. went and bought a new digi cam and printer reduced from £199.98 to £99.98 so I had to put just und £50 cash to it. A bargain.. but now I feel guilty as I already had a digi cam (but not a good!). I was hoping I could rig my mum's laptop to the printer as she hasn't got one, and guess what.. her spec on the laptop is good enough and I can't install the drivers!!! I've got this thing called virtual shopping. I mentally go through the phases of buying something and then the dissapointment that always occurs when you do buy something. I do all of this from the comfort of my bed. LOL. So I never actually buy the thing. Always ask yourself the question "will buying the <whatever> actually make my life better?".Happy chappy0
