A search on my credit file I didn't allow...

Hi all,

Just signed up to the free month with Experian, and I have noticed a search on my file I didn't allow.

It was RBS and it was for insureance.

I got a call, but he said he was from Halifax, (Who I bank with.) But RBS isn't owned by Halifax!

How do I complain and ask for this to be removed from my file? It's now showing I have had 5 searches in 12 months and 3 in the last month because of this and I am worried it will affect the credit offer I wish to apply for.

Thanks.

Jamie

Well first of all, if it's an 'ID Enquiry', 'ID Generic', 'ID Verification', or 'Money Laundering' type search, then these are classed as unrecorded enquiries. Searches of this type are not visible to other lenders...just yourself and the CRA (Experian in this case).

    Still wish to pursue it?
  • This is what it says bar my personal details of course. :)

What insurance policies did you start near the date on the Credit report? Several companies are owned by RBS

    Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

'I do my job, do you do yours?'

  • Thats the thing, I didn't start one! I am only 19, don't own a car, don't own a house, don't have any insurence on my CC.

So you answered the phone and gave all your personal details to a man who said he was from (the) Halifax?
  • Or have you used confused.com for a quote lately?
  • Yeah, he knew my name and address and asked me if I wanted insureance, I said no and said, I have to get back to work and he said, ok thanks for your time Miss XXXXX and hung up.

Didn't give him any personal info.

    Don't own a car, don't even have a licence!

I can't understand why they did a check when I didn't listen to any of his sales banter?!
  • Have you looked up UKI partnerships on Wiki? Have you dealt with any of those companies?
  • Nope, never delt with any of them. Have only really dealt with Halifax and I had an account with HSBC at one point.

I've only ever bought food products from Tesco...

Edit: I've used Worldpay, which is run by RBS...
