Just by your name - like the rest of us - we feel let down

If you know that Gov will not help - ie from reliable sources - it might be better to say - if you can.

This is tricky - wondering if Government are going to help us or not.

Wish they would tell us soon.

I am posting on William Crawley's blog as "bluebadger123"

Crawley should have a good understanding of how this mess came about and the subsequent reaction by Church House.
If I am not mistaken, before starting in broadcasting, he served as assistant to Dr. McKelvey in Fisherwick Belfast and worked for a time in Fifth Avenue Church in New York.
Thanks Betrayed. William Crawley did justice to the topic I thought; no better man for the task.
His blog can be read @ http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/ni/2009/05/pms_protesters_prepare_to_door.html
  • I obviously don't know what your own personal involvement is in this whole PMS disaster, but I'm involved because my elderly widowed mum has money in the society, and I want to do all that I can to help her ...AND ALL SAVERS...get their money back.

I am a housewife with no interest in politics or confrontation, and know I am naive about all the tactics and rumors which seem to be circulating about the PMS situation, but I want...NEED... to do something about this dreadful situation.....

I do not belong to a church myself, so since November my only means of keeping up to date with information has been this web site.

Despite living in Belfast,I have recently become involved with Shore Street PMS action group(in Donaghadee).....it feels great to actually be part of a team of real, live people as well as the 'virtual' people I'm familiar with from the above forum.

I believe that this weeks General Assembly is an opportunity for PMS savers to be seen at last.....We're all familiar with the photographs of the queues of people out side Northern Rock branches, the pictures of Joanna Lumley and the Gurkas, and the local Vistian workers protest.....but the only photo that appears on TV or in the papers whenever the PMS is mentioned, is the picture of the front door of the society's office.

This is because there has been no real opportunity for savers to gather together and to be seen.

For this reason, Shore Street PMS Action group ( and also a few other groups that I know about) are planning a PEACEFUL and DIGNIFIED protest at the doors of Church House this Monday evening..from 6pm.

Church House and local media have already been made aware of this protest.

We can only hope that this will be an opportunity for some of the people caught up in this mess, to be seen by 'THE CHURCH', and this might encourage 'THE CHURCH' to start facing up to their moral obligation, to show some compassion towards the members of their congregations, some of whom are suffering from SEVERE financial hardship and have nowhere else to turn in their time of need.

If you're still reading this....thank you, and please feel free to share this information with anyone you think might be interested.

Also if you think it might help in anyway, please come along and show your support and commitment, tonight at Church House.

You lot need to stop whinging. For a start, as far I'm aware you all bought shares, what did you expect would happen?

If you wanted to put your trust in a fan group of mythical lore, rather than a proper financial institution, then that's your problem and you sure as hell don't deserve any money out of my taxes. I'm with the Bank of Ireland, all properly regulated and backed by both Government's, whereas you choose instead to go with a bunch of manipulative crooks. Whose fault was that?

If I went and invested all my money in The Harry Potter Fans Institute and they went belly-up I wouldn't be getting any money back, so why should you lot be any different?

Y'all cocked up. Deal with it.

We became shareholders/members of a Mutual Society.
Do you know what that is? Have you ever heard of a Credit Union?

We don't want any of your taxes or advice for that matter.
Anyway Government needs your taxes ( and those of future generations) to shore up those institutions that you suggest we invest in.
All we want is proper legislation and fair treatment by Government and our Church.

I'd check mate, Bank of Ireland have withdrawn from the UK scheme and are covered by the Irish govt, who've had to pump money in, and even then your money is only guaranteed til Sep 2010........

as for lashing out at these people, hardly a nice thing to do, you've only still got your money thanks to the Irish Govt.........

and no I've no money in PMS or connection to it

Industrial and Providents Society Order NI 2006

    Was implemented:

The Directors were exempt from regulation should they have stayed within the parameters of an Ind and Prov Society - and should have told the savers it was risk capital.

When they stepped outside of their remit - ie accepting deposits etc etc they should have applied for regulation!!!!!

If the above is correct -

    surely negligence!

Ni folair duit nios mo olas a bheith agat mar gheal ar an sceal sin; ni raibh fhios againn go rabhamar ag ceannach “shares”; ceapamid go rabhamar ag tabhairt airgead ar iasacht go dti an eaglais.

(You really should learn more about this story; we did not realise we were buying shares; we thought we were lending money to our church.)
