Everyone, now is the time to make the suffering and isolation public.
There need to be radio interviews and tv interviews to let people see the faces of the elderly and those who are in dire hardship because of this.

    Contact numbers:
    UTV Communications - 02890 328122
    BBC Communications - 02890 338000

They are waiting on your calls.

    Just a further name -

a journalist is sitting waiting for someone to come forward to tell their story and the lack of Stormont help on this - given that the PMS seem to have been doing regulated activity that should have been FSA regulated - seems as if DETI have let us down by not ensuring regulation of it.

Our Minister in Stormont doesn't seem to have anything to say on it!

You know what ! our problem is that we are Presbyterians and we are hiding! This will not help get our savings returned.

  • The letter writing is beginning to pay off.

I received a hand written letter form Baroness Blood today who is VERY aware of the PMS situation. She knows Jeffrey Donaldson is campaigning on our behalf and has said she will speak to as many people as possible about our plight.

If any "gagging order" protects Directors who lifted money then we need to know - if Directors lifted money then this could amount to "insider trading" which is, strictly speaking, illegal!!! Nothing would surprise me any longer!!
Directors say that none of them lifted money!!
How on earth did this mess come about?
Will put a post when I get time about origins of PMS from a small organisation known as the Rural Settlement Trust Ltd which operated under the Companies Act in NI - this kind of history is available in General Assembly reports of 70's and 80's!! Rural Settlement Trust Ltd also supported by PCI but was much smaller and directed to helping farming community and keeping Presbyterian people on the land. More later.
PMS debate Tuesday afternoon of Assembly week - don't know what info we will get as PMS Directors won't be able to speak although many of them are members of the General Assembly and will, at least, be present in the meeting hopefully - will be useful so that Directors will at least see strength of feeling!!
Many Ministers didn't know about any of this - have money in the PMS and are now, along with the rest, facing anxious times.
  • As time goes on this gets more serious.

No one cares one fig about any of the savers. If anyone was in any doubt, look at the list of people, institutions and departments who are ducking their responsibilities.

Presbyterian Church in Ireland who need to start to put their members first instead of worrying about admitting liability..It's too late now for that - everyone knows that PCI is inextricably linked..perhaps it is time to go public with the names of ministers who have been less than supportive and who have not read out the various documents from the moderator. By their inaction thay have shown:
Number 1 - sign of disrespect for the moderator
Number 2 - complete disregard for the many faithful Presbyterians who foolishly saved in PMS because they were 'good' Presbyterians.

DETI - quite content to speedily put in emergency legislation which has bound this whole thing up so tightly that the savers do not even have access to each other's names. Tactic to hide something, no doubt.
Quite content to give a few platitudes at the beginning but where is Arlene Foster now? Is DETI scared that they are going to have to cough up for this because the legislation is a mess.

FSA - How dare they issue a statement which was inaccurate and allow the press to publish it, giving people a false sense of security. They can't even explain their 'oversight'.

This is all a tactic to make sure no one takes responsibility BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY THINGS WRONG THAT EVERYONE INVOLVED NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND WON'T BE FIRST TO DO IT.

IF THERE WAS MONEY TO BE HANDED OUT TO THEM, WOULD THEY BE SO SHY AT COMING FORWARD?

Government - Most of the savers were UK taxpayers who worked hard and saved hard, living by a Presbyterian ethos of working hard and thrift. The government were happy to get the taxes back from the PMS savers' investments. Many people who know and knew no better thought that PMS savers got easy interest. If they had to pay an accountant to reconcile the tax on their interest with HMRC, then perhaps they would understand that it wasn't as easy an option as people thought.

Government bailed out every other bank including Icelandic bank but are dallying over PMS. Why?

Just a thought - Did the church make the fatal error of distancing itself at the beginning which has precipitated an attitude from other departments of 'Why should we bother? The very church that attached its name to the Presbyterian Mutual Society has turned on its heel.'
All PCI had to say was that they empathised with the situation and reassured the savers that they would endeavour to devote time, energy and resources to lobbying and working with the various departments.
Instead, PCI tried every single tactic to distance themselves from the most devoted members of their Church. How many week's silence did we have and then jumping on the bandwagon of everyone else's ideas?
For what it's worth, (IMO) if PCI had been seen to put up some of the shortfall, it would have been a gesture which may have been enough to bring in the Government behind it.

Perhaps PCI need to call back their missionaries from overseas and use that money to sort out the mess at home. The very Presbyterians who could afford to support these missionaries overseas can barely afford to support themselves. PCI - Charity begins at home.

Why do people continue to have sympathy for the church?
Where is the church's sympathy for its people who saved with PMS?
It's time someone stood up and was counted in Church House. It must be difficult to work in an institution which preaches 'Love your neighbour' yet won't even care for its church family. A fair weather church, by all accounts.

That is why the message has to be:

    (1) Creditors vote to retain the legal right to be paid out first.
    (2) Keep writing to and lobbying PCI, DETI, Government Departments
    (3) Anyone prepared to tell their story on radio or TV.
    (4) General Assemby presence.

Savers are the only people who can influence this situation. Don't be frightened to come across as forceful or assertive. It's your savings.

If they think that presenting evidence of 12 people out of 10,000 is going to make the banks come up with a huge loan then I think they are barking up the wrong tree. The two leaders want to visit Arlene Foster's office and ask her what she is going to do about her lack or regulation or overseeing. They are simply trying to deflect blame from Stormont.

Possibly, but how many others were contacted, got their dosh out, and are lying low?
  • Exactly my thinking. No one will want to admit that they were contacted and withdrew their money!!!
