I hope you find knowing there are other PMSers out here as much of a support as i have. This site keeps me sane!
I need my daily forum fix especially just now at this time of night before going off to bed!:o It calms me and means i do not have negative thoughts involving PCI:mad: but better dreams of good Forum Folk who keep me positive!:D Tonight though i maybe will think of the Moderator! Isn't he meeting the folks in London tomorrow????
It DOES help knowing there are other people going through the same difficult times! Night night all!

I know of someone who wrote to treasury and in the reply was told pms was a capital risk investment not a deposit account and therefore the government would not be getting involved. We really need to push the issue and get some consensus from the government as to the situation.

I have a response from Treasury committee in which they quote the following from Alistair Darling
Mr Darling:" I have a great deal of sympathy with many people who put their money into what was thought to be an industrial provident society and are in a situation where they are extremely worried about their savings. As you know, the Financial Services Authority is carrying out an investigation into seeing whether or not this institution at some stage became a bank in terms of taking deposits and making lending. I think they do need to conduct that investigation. If it was an industrial provident society, as I understand it, it would be registered with - I think it is - the Department of Trade and Industry or the DTI in Northern Ireland, obviously if it were a bank, then it should have been reported as such and it would have been regulated by the FSA. I think we need to get to the bottom of that and to find out what the problems are. I hope that can be done as quickly as possible consistent with ascertaining the facts. I am very aware of this; I know it is causing a lot of concern in Northern Ireland."

I don't know if Treasury is the same as Treasury committee, but it doesn't seem like a consistent response?

  • PCI are expected to call for support from the Government for those with money tied up in PMS. Dr Patton is travelling to Westminster to present a petition which has 28181 signatures.
The petition will be given to Jeffrey Donaldson MP who will present it to parliament. An online petition is still open with almost 6000 signatures.

We urgently need to challenge Gordon Brown on comments he made on channel 4 news on saturday 28th march regarding dunfermline building society He said quote" it is important to recognise that throughout this whole crisis everyone who has been saving in a UK institution has been protected whenever there has been a difficulty in that institution" The PMS is a uk institution and there has been no such protection and not even a comment regarding the situation. Interestingly I know of someone who wrote to treasury and in the reply was told pms was a capital risk investment not a deposit account and therefore the government would not be getting involved. We really need to push the issue and get some consensus from the government as to the situation.
