  • Hi,

I have only now found this thread (and it is excellent BTW) but have been lobbying both the BBC and SKY news hard about the situation with the PMS for months now with not a lot of sucess it must be said. I have a vested interest as although I live in Wales I am originally from N. Ireland and my parents have invested all their life savings in the PMS.

Thanks for the link to George Osborne's site

I have sent him the following email and will let you know what the reply is

    Hi George,
I realise you are very busy at the moment but I would ask for a couple of minutes of youe time to read and reflect on the following please.

I see you are quite rightly trying to hold the government to account over the Dunfermline BS situation. What I cannot understand is why no-one seems to care about their handling of the Presbyterian Mutual Society situation in Northern Ireland. Savers with the PMS are in danger of losing a large part of their savings and contrary to how the savers with Northern Rock , Dunfermline BS and even Icelandic banks have been looked after, no-one outside of N. Ireland seems interested in the situation with the PMS which has been going on for months now. I know that the Labour party has no 'direct' voters in Northern Ireland but it seems to me that the PMS savers , many of whom are elderly, are being treated as second class citizens compared to savers in mainland UK.

All sides of the political divide in Northern Ireland are united in trying to save the deposits of the PMS savers but it would appear that no-one outside of Northern Ireland is interested in holding the Government to account over this.
Comparing their (the Goverment) treatment of the PMS in Northern Ireland to the quick resolution of the mutual in Mr Bown's constituency does smack of favouritism in the extreme from the outside observer.

    Can you help with this?
  • Probably could have done with turning on spell checker though :(

A suggestion from another poster -

IF GORDON BROWN ISN'T INTERESTED IN US

LETS START EMAILING DAVID CAMERON ETC

WHY IS SIR REG EMPEY AND DANNY KENNEDY NOT LOBBYING THE CONSERVATIVES ON THIS???????? - won't they be getting votes in NI?

Granted the Conservatives can't get it sorted but they can put pressure on Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling and look them straight in the eye at PM's questions -

    Lets get the email addresses

This is really getting hot now!

Are you all ready for that rally - we could get the TV cameras?
  • If you click on the ''thread tools'' located in the green header near the top of this page, click on 'view printable version' you can save the info to a word document.
It looks like you have to save it page by page...there are 40 odd pages, but before I logged off earlier, I was able to save the first 10 pages in a few seconds....maybe this info will get us started until some 'techie' come up with a better way.

My mum had a call from a bank manager suggesting that she should move her and dads money.
Mums next door neighbour had the same call a few days earlier

    john2009:-
Did you manage to get to bottom of how bank manager(s) knew to contact your parents and their neighbour?
I think you said you were going to chase/investigate.
Hopefully you will consider getting in touch with ICO as suggested by various posters (you may already have).

The Independent Commissioners Officer can be contacted at:- 01625 545745.
If would be of help if anyone to whom "cold calls" were made and requested to move money from the PMS could contact Mr Donaldson’s Office and ICO. All matters will be dealt with in strictest confidence.

The following Lords are believed to be sympathetic, so if you haven’t already done so please send a letter to this address: House of Lords London SW1A OPW (apparently it is letters only – no email?!)

This works, albeit it sends your selected Lord a FAX:-

We should not forget our fellow PMS investors in the South (any of you reading this?).

We need to also lobby MPs or anyone of influence in the South. Do you know of anyone who would be worth lobbying?
  • We urgently need to challenge Gordon Brown on comments he made on channel 4 news on saturday 28th march regarding dunfermline building society He said quote" it is important to recognise that throughout this whole crisis everyone who has been saving in a UK institution has been protected whenever there has been a difficulty in that institution" The PMS is a uk institution and there has been no such protection and not even a comment regarding the situation. Interestingly I know of someone who wrote to treasury and in the reply was told pms was a capital risk investment not a deposit account and therefore the government would not be getting involved. We really need to push the issue and get some consensus from the government as to the situation.
  • We have contacted or local TD (MP) Seymour Crawford on the issue and he is trying to bring the case before the irish Government.

I am new to this website. Do people in general that there are unconfirmed reports that several building contractors ow the PMS many millions of pounds?
