Blackberry internet tariff with O2

Options
Hiya,

This is a follow up thread from another posting of mine but specific to the Blackberry internet tariff.

To cut a long story short I was offered the web bolt on with O2 for use with some standard phones for £20 pm.

When I asked about the Blackberry 8110 I was told that I could only get it on the £25 pm tariff because apparently, even though the handset is cheaper than the standard phones I'd been offered, you need a 'special' Blackberry data tariff which is £10 pm in itself.

Is this correct?
What's stopping you using the normal web bolt on for browsing and email?
Has anyone managed to get a Blackberry from O2 with just the standard web bolt on rather than the Blackberry one?

Thanks

Sounds very iffy to me- there is no Blackberry tariff from what I can see on there so I think they are telling you porkies.
  • Managed to find this http://shop.o2.co.uk/blackberryhub where it states:

    Our BlackBerry Bolt Ons
How do you want to use your BlackBerry?
Choose from one of our BlackBerry Bolt Ons below. You can select the BlackBerry Bolt On from the Extras page.

    BlackBerry Unlimited*
FREE on 18/24 months with 600 mins or more on your tariff. Alternatively, available for £10 on all other tariffs.
We recommend this bolt on for frequent web and email access access email and surf the web most days open lots of email attachments send 2 or more photos a week by email use Sat Nav services with your BlackBerry martphone
    * BlackBerry Unlimited
Fair usage policy applies (200Mb a month). Tariff excludes O2 Active (WAP) browsing, using your device as a modem and web browsing on BlackBerry Connect™ devices.

So I'm not too sure how this differs to the normal O2 web bolt on as that has a fair usage policy of 200MB as well .
  • Ok with Blackberry you have to have one of two different packages on your account for your blackberry to work.

Blackberry Pay as You Use is free, its just added on that allows you to access the blackberry service but accessing the internet or emails will cost £2.70 (if I recall correctly) per MB of data.

Blackberry unlimited allows you to have unlimeted data for both internet and email for £10 a month, the FUP is 200mb but due to Blackberry's excellent compression tool, you will find it really hard to go over this.

Blackberry uses different APN's (basically doors to the internet) hence why you can't just use the normal web bolt-on's.

Personally, if you're going for the £25 tariff and adding the Unlimited package then I would go with the £35 tariff and select it as the free bolt-on, you're paying the same amount of money but getting more minute/sms allowance.
