  • OK, you have to tell your OH.

At least so he might be able to help so your not paying horrible expensive charges!

How long have you had these debts? I would assume at least a year! Do you want to be in this same position this time next year? Tell him. Show him your posts on here. Show him you want to sort things out and you are trying.

Sorry don't know my credit rating, not good me thinks, Tried to get a £10 thousand loan to pay it all off, but could'nt get one, cus they said i was'nt working, but they gave me a £5000 loan when i was'nt working.
I am reluctant to take out another loan, because i only have 15 payments left to pay on this one. so once that was paid it would free up some money. just can't afford to pay it.

Consolidation often isn't the best way off doing things.

You need to find out the APR's. You can save money by moving debts around!

Alos you have more outgoings than incomings. This means you get further into debt!
  • just a small point, i was laid off and didnt claim job seekers till one and a half months later, at that stage i had aplied for 30 jobs and had no interviews and i started (the first time in my life) accumilating debts. i know its only around £80 but everything is usefull :)

Hang on in there! The people who have been giving advice know their stuff: trust their advice.

Once your partner knows the full story, you can face this together.

Take care, try not to worry too much and don't forget you are only human.

I would suggest you have a nice chat with your Other Half, it’s very important you reduce the stress you’re personally under. A big well done for chopping up your two Credit Cards – a great leap forward. – hooray.

Credit Cards are the work of Vested Interests and the Devil and must be destroyed.

    Hiya,

Just a little point... get your OH to sign on ASAP - i put it off first time for 4 months as i was "too proud" and convinced that i would get a job soon. Found out when i finally gave in and my savings had run out.. that i stupid as i was missing out on NI contributions by not being signed on plus the £44 or whatever a week is better than nothing! Specially as its just getting back what youve put in the system yourself.

When i got made redundant last jan i signed on straight away (i.e. next day) and had a job within a week (and offered 7 more!!) as when your signing on you have much more access to jobs through job searches when you go to the jobcentre- i got 2 weeks JSA pay too as the new job started a week later.. so i had £88 to help with my bills and a new job just from making the phone call. Youve paid into the system all your working life so you may aswell make use of it.

    BJL -

You don't know your APRs? I didn't either but to find out this information is a really big important step in taking control of your debts. I would call all of the companies that you owe money to and ask them what APR you are paying then post full details on here. Armed with this information people on this board will be able to help you target the repayment of your debts.

Have you read Martin's book "The Money Diet"? You could borrow it from the library or something. It is fantastic and coupled with this site you will be finance savvy before you know it!

You will be able to get through this problem - it will take time but you CAN do it. The most important think to do is take control and by coming on this site you have made your first step.

    Good luck!

Just a quick note, your OH MUST sign on! If he got made redundant he will get something! He will only get money from when he signs on so he must do it now. Even if he doesn't get anything his NI contributions will not be broken. Have you rung the council and asked for Council tax benefit. Also ring the child tax credit helpline and tell them about your change of circumstances.
