Taking Ryanair to court?

A familiar story. Ryanair abandoned me at Marakech airport on 6th Nov (Flight FR3506). No rerouting or other help was offered. We had to book with another airline and go back the next day at great expense. I have read the relevant EU regulations and am going to pursue them for a full and proper compensation, as I think what they said about bad weather was a big pile of dog droppings!

Looking at their previous record it looks like I will have to take them to the small claims court after a suitable period of futile letter writing.

Anyone any experience about whether it is better to pursue them through the English or the Irish courts?

Not had the pleasure Speedybee, but yes follow normal claim protocols through by sending your obligatory letters etc then get a weather report for the day and also a report from the airport as to advice given to airlines by the air traffic controllers etc.

When you take them to court, as your local news reporter to attend and get it syndicated!

I'm sure RyanAir will have offered to put you on the next available flight, thus not abandoning you. Admittedly, they won't have offered anything with regards to compensation, as they were blaming the weather, but they would have got you home eventually!

  • No. There was no onward flight offered. there was no ryanair rep at the airport. They did literaly just shrug their sholders and say to find our own way back to the uk.

its not a familiar story ryanair just abandoning you completely like that, they will normally put you on the next flight.

i dont blame you for making your own way back, i expect the rest of the flight turned up on friday and tried to get on that flight, did you see any other ryanair passengers on the friday or ryanair staff?

i know its not nice and i have made my own way back home once after an easyjet fiasco, and stuck it out with ryanair for 48 hours and got home eventually.

its a sure bet most of the passengers on the cancelled flight got on the next available ryanair flight. which i suppose is all you could expect ryanair to do for them, you probably saw them on the friday , while you were going back with another carrier (easyjet,2 hours later?)

at least you had the peace of mind that you were going home the next day, i bet some ryanair passengers had to wait days

You might want to check if Ryanair have their own staff at that airport or use one of the ground handling agents. If it is the latter they may say your case is with them. I got stuck in Sevilla (only time I have had a problem with Ryanair) and they offered me 2 choices (a) a flight on the next available Ryanair flight home or (b) a refund. I choose the latter as the former would have meant several days extra in Seville at my own expense (which I would have had to claim of my travel insurance) and as I'm self employed I had to get back.

If they did say that, they would be wrong. Your claim is with Ryanair, with whom you had a contract. You have no contract with any ground handling agents.

    Good luck:)
  • another course of action could be:

    www.euclaim.co.uk

    a couple of caveats:

    1. it appears the max. claim is £470. pp.

    2. they claim 25% of the final compensation figure.

it might be worth a look, all the same.

    good luck.

  • Heres a summary of what happened from another passenger on the flight (see 10th Nov entery) confirming their complete lack of rerouting. They even abandoned a lady in a wheel chair without any help to get home.

Thanks for the tip jamesscredmond but think I will persue it myself as save the 25%. Anyway, everyone need a hobby and I guess this will keep me amused and off the streets for a few months!

I got a lot of help there and managed to finally get a refund out of Easyjet after 12 months getting nowhere.

what happened the next day speedybee when you got the airport and ryanair were flying out that day?, there must have been some of the abandoned given seats on that flight.

the link you gave says much the same as you, we made our own way home and didnt bother waiting for ryanair to sort it out.

you turned up at the airport the following day friday, had the ryanair flight already departed?

i know you were abandoned as i have been, but the following day its service as normal and ryanair would have been available

maybe you had paid a small fortune to easyjet??, and didnt want to find out if ryanair would have sent you home to where you came from and earlier.
