Argos and Empty PS2 box!
Comments

Hi All. My sister bought each one of her 2 boys a Nintendo for Christmas and whilst checking before she wrapped them realised that one of the boxes contained everything except the actual console!
Interestingly, the empty box was the box that still had the seal on. When she bought them the assistant checked the pre-opened one to prove that the console (and everything else) was there... but didn't open the sealed one.
Not sure how my sister stands in terms of getting a replacement (it's 10.30 PM ... and she's on the way down to the store now)
Anyone had a similar, more recent experience? Would be good to know what the outcome was.
Will certainly keep you posted on what happens. It just really galling and stressful when, at the end of the day, this was their main Christmas present and there's always that uncertainty that Argos won't do the right thing.
Anyone planning on buying anything from Argos? Then still check that the item's in the box EVEN if there's still a seal on the packaging.0 -
Well, my sister went to the store. And a replacement was given. The management acknowledged that it's a recurring problem. Apparently, any product that goes into a store is NOT sealed at the original source but INSTEAD is sealed at the actual store itself.
Reading between the lines this basically means that the 'empty box' happens between the main warehouse and the store. It's highly unlikely that the products are stolen from WITHIN the store itself and is probably more to do with the delivery people (probably contractual drivers) and/or the off-loaders in the 'back yard' of a given outlet. It's not rocket science to realise that it's possible to take a product out of a box BEFORE it finally gets into the back of the store and is then... and only then... 'security sealed'.
For the record the 'empty box' was bought at Rotherham Town Centre's Argos. I reckon they may have a problem there... but it's obviously something that could have happened in any outlet if the procedures are exactly the same throughout the country.
This said, my sister went to another outlet (the only one that was open at 10.30 at night!), at Meadowhall Shopping Centre. The manageress there was absolutely fantastic and fully understanding as was the regional manager who happened to also be there at the time.
But please do check anything you buy from Argos!0
