youngandreckless wrote:I love xmas and I must be lucky as it has never been about presents etc for the sake of it. All my friends and family are aware I'm getting out of debt and so were perfectly happy with the little somethings I got them and the difference is I really thought about them this year - everyone has go something I know they need or will love.
I got practical pressies - dressing gown, jumper, perfume, hair straighteners for example. All stuff I'll get loads of use of. I also asked for money rather than vouchers, which may raise a few eyebrows, but I'll need to be buying more stuff for my college course over the next few months and so I'll stash the money for that and make sure that my family know exactly what I bought.
At the end of the day (touch wood) I'm happy and healthy and so are my family and friends, so being together over the last few days, was the best bit of all! Merry xmas xx
I totally second what you say Y&R. I love Xmas too, and in fact I really enjoy the build up to it as well- perhaps because I really don't like the winter in general so having Xmas to look forward to from when the clocks go back in October really helps. I also enjoy looking out for and asking my family what they would like for presents too. I tend to start shopping for presents early to spread the cost and gives me more time to spot suitable things as well. This year as always my family has really enjoyed Xmas without going mad/getting into debt over it.Yesterday is today's memories, tomorrow is today's dreams0 -
I like seeing my wife sweat over the stove. That's why she has small feet, so she can stand closer to the sink."YOU WANT THE CASH? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE CASH"0

This has been the most un-Xmasy Xmas ever in my opinion. Ask kids nowadays what Xmas is about and they say PS or XBOX.
It's totally driven by spending stupid amounts of money and the stores making profits. Everyone just buys each other a piece of tat to the value that the other persons gift of tat will be!
We decided this year as a family that we would not buy for the adults and just buy for the kids. I bought my niece and nephew clothes as they have so many useless toys and it takes some pressure off my sis.
When I was asked at work what I had bought the other half and I explained that we had decided not to buy each other this year and put the money towards a better summer holiday, I just got ridiculed!
Ridiculed by the people who will have no money for the next twelve months as they pay off their cards :rolleyes:0 -

Somewhere along our journey we have been trained into thinking that we have to give presents on certain ocassions. It seems to me too, that family are the ones that go into the biggest feeding frenzy when it comes to presents.
I am ridiculed when it comes to cards and presents, but there again I do like adverse attention. So for me it is like water off a ducks back. I wonder if I am ridiculed because I have more courage than some of the others?A case of beer has 24 cans. There are 24 hours in a day...............Coincidence?0
