A thought just struck me, if I had to leave home in a hurry what would I take that was important to me? Not essentials, just what is important.

MY PC as there is my livelihood on it.
My Bed mmmmmm I love my bed
My dirty old car (needed for work)
2 Books (one was the present)

That is all I can think of, well that is all I feel I need. So why when I look around the room is there so much more??????????

I'm feeling pretty pleased. I've received a number of very useful presents, only 3 minor items are unwanted, so I'll shift them on Ebay later in the year. For example "funky monkey vanilla air freshener". It's nice of them to give me a present, so I appreciate it, but it has no use to me. Also, I was given a Stanley DIY stud/wire locater which I'll give to my friend who is doing his house up.
    Happy chappy

  • I love xmas and I must be lucky as it has never been about presents etc for the sake of it. All my friends and family are aware I'm getting out of debt and so were perfectly happy with the little somethings I got them and the difference is I really thought about them this year - everyone has go something I know they need or will love.
I got practical pressies - dressing gown, jumper, perfume, hair straighteners for example. All stuff I'll get loads of use of. I also asked for money rather than vouchers, which may raise a few eyebrows, but I'll need to be buying more stuff for my college course over the next few months and so I'll stash the money for that and make sure that my family know exactly what I bought.
At the end of the day (touch wood) I'm happy and healthy and so are my family and friends, so being together over the last few days, was the best bit of all! Merry xmas xx

  • This year as hubby didn't finish work until 23rd december, I told him I would buy my own present and wrap them. It was great, I bought a DVD and a couple of books that I really wanted.

High point was Christmas lunch with our son and his girlfriend, and my Dad who will be 90 in a few weeks.

Who says you need to spend loads to have a good Christmas, it's about family and friends.

So back to Ant and Dec

Did we laugh because it was funny, or were we laughing because we hide our own secrets by other peoples embarassment.

The children loved the fact that the house was totally decorated, however dad can not repeat it next year (well not without great expense).

The prizes were fantastic, but dirt cheap in a commercial sense. So we laughed because they (commercial business) were exposing two people who did not like, or want to spend, or waste money!!!

Once again the winner was anti Scrooge. Scrooge is a hero though, he is looking after the pennies so the family survives another year without a letter from the creditors!!!

I utterly hate this time of year. To give presents just because of a calendar date! Yuk!
But, of course, I was obliged to give the kids some money (for booze and fags?). I'm so grateful that my wife feels the same as I, and we ignored the gift thing for each other.

I suppose I could rampage on about the fact that Chistmas has sod all to do with Christ, but that doesn't help all the folk who log in here with money pressures. I have been there, too. It's so bloody hard to say no to buying things at this time of year, even just a card. Personally, I detest Xmas and hope we can all stop its celebration.
PS I know that won't happen!!!! Ba!
  • I'm with the lot of you, Xmas is totally overrated - someone once said to me Xmas has become a case of "glory to God in the High Street" and that is how I look at it now. On Xmas morning I got a book I wanted, a CD, some bath stuff and chocolate (mmmmmm!!). We had a fairly low key Xmas, as we do most years, and I am perfectly satisfied with that. Went to sales yesterday and got stuff I NEEDED at half price (new bedding, shoes, jeans and a jacket).

I watched the Ant and Dec programme too, it made me squirm when that poor bloke was made to feel like a miser / scrooge (his house was more festivly decorated than mine!!!). I think that is probably the last time I will watch those two if that is their idea of fun. It is a greed-based show anyway ("win the ads").

People at work think I am odd with this attitude, but it's refreshing to see I am not alone. OH wants to go on holiday next year, to get away from it all - not sure we'll do that but I can see his point!
