Need 7 x £10 notes from cash point evrey week

Options
We've decided on a new budgetting system. Rather than weekly money we're going to try daily money. So from our budget we've got £80 for supermarket shopping (there's 7 of us in our house, before you OS people start moaning!) plus £10 a day.
It would make sense to take out this money all in one go, then keep the £10s safe until the relevant day comes.

The problem is, how do we get hold of 7 £10 notes?
If we get £150 from the cash point the chances are that it will be in £20s with a single £10 note.
Are we going to have to stand at the cash point and make 7 individual withdrawals? Obviously we could change the money at the bank or PO, but this will probably mean waiting in a queue.
Any other ideas?

Maybe we'll have to do "two days money" most of the time...

Is that £80 a day on shopping? Or week...?

Um why can't you do everything in a spreadsheet and pay by card? Effort getting out £70 a day, which has to be in £10 notes.

    ---- effort ----

ok so you want £10 a day? thats not too bad....
  • take out £10 one day and only take out another when you actually need it - see it as a challenge.

(i take it you mean £10 a day to cover all of you, not £10 a day each?)

    To clarify...

The £80 is weekly shopping. Any left over can be spent. If more is needed it will have to come from the £10 daily.
    The £10 is just a single £10 a day. The 7 x £10s is a week's worth.

    Our house...

There's me and my wife and our 3 small children. Then there's my MIL and SIL. MIL gives us money monthly towards their board so the £80 a week covers the 7 of us (8 when SIL's BF is here!). Spending money is then seperate, so the £10 a day is for my wife and I and our children. I'm at work all day so rarely spend anything. Children are too little to spend on their own. So it's basically for my wife to spend on the kids.

The problem with that is that things get forgotten, not always easy to keep track, all too easy to "borrow" from tomorrow's or next week's money.

I can see how this would work for some, but...
    1. Won't always be near a cash point.
    2. As with the credit card / spreadsheet plan it's not always easy to keep track.
    3. The challenge itself is to stick to our budget! There's got to be some reward for that and so this way we can "save" some of Monday's money and have more to spend on Tuesday, or save a bit each day and have takeaway at the weekend, etc.
  • Here's a novel idea.
Take out 70quid at the beginning of the week and only spend 10 of it per day, leaving the rest in your wallet.

Surely you have the will power to manage that?!? :o

You could always take out all £70 on day one, then use the first £10 at the supermarket and ask the cashier to change the other £60 into £10 notes for you. You'd already be queuing so it wouldn't take up any more of your time and I'm sure they must always have over £60 float.

Oh, my goodness. You're a brave one ..... I'd need double your budget just to stay sane. ;)

Back to the problem. As you say ..... you won't get the right blend out of an ATM. So either draw it all over the counter. Or get the £100 via an ATM (should include 2 x £10). And then £50 cashback (5 x £10) when you do the supermarket shop?

And ..... best of luck with the extended family. Self + OH + annual Christmas visit from son is all I cope with these days!
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Sorry to be so dense (or do I mean just plain nosy!) but what exactly is this £70 for? It seems an awful lot of money for 'extras' as it's almost as much as your weekly shop for 7.

Move to Hackney, where they have a cash machine that only dispenses £5 notes. I'm assuming you could live with 14 fivers rather then 7 tenners? :D
