Old Style Daily; Wednesday 12 November

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for xx (add date). This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning, everyone! Aussie - hope you don't mind my pushing in :pPink and I have updated the Daily Thread Sticky, so I wanted to draw everyone's attention to it. The main change is the second paragraph - which I've hightlighted :D

I'll post properly soon ;)

    Good morning everyone,

It's been raining here on and off this morning but it's fine and sunny now. I've just finished washing my lourves & screens upstairs and decided to reward myself. Off to have arv tea shortly and head off in the yard. The girls need to be let out. That's the chooks btw. ;) DGS is climbing all over me as I've said I was going to find him some Spiderman on You Tube. :D

Made a new cabbage casserole this morning. It's a side dish to have with tea tonight. We've got heaps of cabbage in the garden atm. Also made some toffee vodka from some vodka DD gave me she didn't like. Has anyone made it? I put 2 bags of toffee in. Someone from the mainland has bought the new shop I've been told. Well can't really think of anything else. My day hasn't been that exciting. Hope you all have a lovely day & <hugs> to those not well. Byeeeeeeeeeeeee

Happy Belated Birthday to the Birthday girl yesterday.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

Good morning, Aussie, and all who follow. Up early this morning because I woke up at about 3.30 and couldn't get back to sleep.

Routine mammogram this morning and then I need to get some petrol and do a bit of shopping. This afternoon I hope to get the rest of the Christmas cards written out and some more pressies wrapped. I had £20 in Amazon vouchers to spend so managed to order three pressies yesterday. Apart from DS2's birthday in December and one more present to get for him and DIL for Christmas, I'm all done. I have enough Co-op dividend vouchers to pay for the food over Christmas but there is another pay-out due soon, too, so I will probably do a big re-stock of all the basic store-cupboard ingredients with that.

Dinner tonight is beef stew - I shall make enough to have the leftovers for dinner on Friday - two days work back at the surgery (8am to 5.30pm) will have done me in by then and I won't want to have to cook properly.

Well, enough from me. I hope all those who have been unwell are feeling better now. (((Hugs))) to everyone.

Morning Pen Pin, Aussie and Kathy,

Cold here today, there is a sharp frost on the car, off to w**k today, we have a large meeting this morning so thats most of the day taken up.

Kathy I am sorry I thought you were back at work today, good luck for tomorrow.

I too have nearly finished my xmas shopping, just need to get my dd a few more stocking fillers, and apart from one present I have done it all online :T . I need to start thinking of making my cards soon, I always make my own, which harks back to when my dd was younger, and we made them together, she still helps me, but does one or two then gives up

OS today, I have a hm ready meal for tea, chilli, which I made Monday, I do feel it improves with keeping, rubbish and garden recycling out today, and I will put a wash on tonight.

Kathy, good luck with the mammogram today, and Squigly, I hope your turn out ok, hugs to you xx

Anyhoo thats it from me, have good days all xx

Very frosty here today, thanks for the comments re my Doctors visit, this is the 2nd Dr I've tried at this surgery, I may change surgerys & see if I can find a better one, they seem only interested getting everyone onto some sort of drug, probably for the free holiday. I have a friend who works in mental health & she get's free golf clubs, holidays etc from the drug companies she deals with.
Lamb shank for tea tonight (if I remember to get it out the freezer) I'll roast it tonight & make stew for tomorrow. I'm getting very little OS done at the moment as I'm working an hour or so extra at work to try to clear my intray, without much success I may say.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Good Morning All

Not raining here for a change so that is a good start to the day.

Should have been at Tai Chi today but have too much to do so will give it a miss. Need to find another class now as the one I go to is a beginner and I now need a continuing. Anyway officework this morning and my first job is to put in a stationary order which I love doing ! lol.

Want to swish the bathrooms today with vinegar and clean kitchen sinks. Will try and persuade OH to clean the hob and hood in the kitchen while I do the windows. Have to clean the blinds first which is not a favourite job - will use my steamer. Then will make the carrot cake today that I didnt get round to yesterday.

Have wrapped up one load of pressies and today I would like to try and get my mums and stepfathers ones ordered online so thats another 2 I can cross off my list. Also will try and go though Quidco.

Anyway best get on, need to go and get meatballs out of the freezer - having them with pasta tonight.

    Have a good one.

  • Morning all - its great reading what your all up to so I can get some ideas as I'm still picking my way through OS.

Well, today DD (8 mths) has an upset tummy (any suggestions to help? tried her with banana this morning, which she usually loves, but to no avail) which means I'll have to use the car again to take DS to school - I've managed not to use it all for the past 2 weeks!

OS...well tonight I'm making pasta sauce (tinned toms, onion, garlic, red pesto, sugar & red chillis) with enough left over to freeze for another time. I've also just got a Spinach and Bacon loaf out of the freezer that I made last week ;) I made 2, and it was yummy, accept I may of used to much spinach or something as it was quite green inside

    Have a good Wednesday!

    Morning All,

A lovely clear day here today but very cold. Luckily DH left for work an hour ago and the kids are running around so no need to have the heating on, am out most of the day too so wont need to turn it on until tonight.

Todays plans are; off to dr for results of fasting blood test, to school to train the children in road safety, pick up DD2 from preschool, off to do some gardening for a friend, quick pta meeting at school for xmas bazaar and then pickup DD1 and DS from school. Tonight I have book club at a friends house which is always fun, though the last book we read (Any Human Heart by William Boyd) wasnt all that good-only 2 of us bothered to finish it!!!!

I've had some broth mix soaking overnight so will chuck that in the SC with some soup later on-yummy.

Love and happy thoughts to all of you,
    Al x

Morning, I haven't been on here for a while as I have been franticaly decorating and cleaning the cottage from top to bottom in readiness for the 22 people we have staying this week-end. My DB1 and SiL fly in from Spain so will pick them up from airport tomorrow, they're staying until Monday. The rest are arriving on Fri.

Since Mon I have decored the study, vinegared every window, mirror and picture throughout. Scrubed bathrooms, vacumed every room, polished, cleaned brass emptied kitchen cupboards stardroped them made a list of everything in there and put back stuff.

Must do a huge shop today for all food needed for 22 peeps. I have made and frozen 12lbs of curry, 10lbs of chilli, gallons of split pea soup and spicy tomato and red lentil soup. Y/day I made 4 loaves, 2 steak pies, 3 cheese and onion pies and froze them. I have an apple cake in the oven and bm on.
I've started a meal plan for the week-end but I'm at a loss as to how to keep everything stored cold, might ask friends neighbours strangers if they have cool boxes I can borrow.

Haven't caught up with what's been going on here but will send congrats and hugs where needed.

    Have a good day.
