old bottle of Whisky - what can I do with it?

Alcohol in spirit form will keep forever, that's why it doesn't have a Best before date on it
You could use your whisky to make a whisky sauce for steak (whisky and cream)
or
make a hot toddy to have of an evening, especially good if you've got a cold: a good splash of whisky in a mug, add a teaspoon of honey, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and top it up with boiling water. A comforting drink and great for sweating a cold out too!0 -

back in 1979 we went to Tomintoul (sp) in Scotland and bought a special bottle of Scotch to open when our daughter got married (she was 10 at the time) we opened in10 years later, and it was fine and it disappeared very quickly.
My late Father, a true hardy wee Scot from Brechin in Angus used to say the only thing to drink with a Scotch, was another one .He would have been horrified to have mixed it with anything so mundane as a cake or pudding.
I must admit my beverage is a decent G&T, but a drop of the 'water of life' in a glass with some lemon & honey is a lot nicer than Benylin for a cold.It doesn't cure it ,but you feel a lot brighter for having it0 -
Thanks for al the recipes and ideas, really laughed about the ones who said they would pay the postage and that it was 'unsafe to drink'
I will wade through all the recipes, and make a hot toddy, and if i am in a fit state, will post the results next week, I Like the idea of soaking sultanas in Whisky, I could make baileys, soak the sultanas, add both to icecream, and eat in bed with a warm duvet and a good man ha!look after the pennies and the pounds look after themselves.0 -
Any excuse to give these two their annual Winter/Christmas outing ...
1. ISLE OF ISLAY CREAM
Makes approx. 1 litre
INGREDIENTS
400g tin of condensed milk
170g tin of evaporated milk (eg. "Ideal")
250ml carton of UHT long-life single cream
250ml of Scotch whisky
Coffee essence (eg. "Camp") to taste
METHOD
Pour the milk and cream into a 1 litre jug or bowl. Use the whisky to wash out the milk and cream containers, then add it to the bowl. Add the coffee essence. Mix together.
PS. I don't know how long this will keep for. It has never stayed around long enough to go off.
2. HOT WHISKY TODDY
I make no grand medical claims for this drink. A hot whisky toddy will not cure your cold, but it should make you feel better. And if it doesn't, the next one might.
Serves 1
INGREDIENTS
50ml of Scotch whisky*
1 teaspoon of honey
50ml of boiling water
METHOD
If possible, print this recipe and give it to someone else to make, whilst you curl up in a miserable, sniffling heap under a duvet. You are poorly, after all.
Put the whisky into a heatproof container (see below). Put the teaspoon with the honey in it into the container. Add the boiling water. Stir thoroughly with the teaspoon until all the honey has dissolved.
ADDITIONS & ALTERNATIVES
Use sugar instead of the honey. Add ¼ of a teaspoon of lemon juice. Add a stick of cinnamon or a couple of cloves.
TIPS
A hot whisky toddy should be sipped slowly to allow it time to work its magic on your sore throat, stuffy nose and aching muscles. However, whilst clutching a whisky tumbler of steaming liquid looks and feels great, hot alcoholic drinks go cold very quickly. A pottery mug holds the heat in better, but not by much. They may look a bit utilitarian, but best of all is one of those insulated mugs with a lid, which will keep it warm down to the last sip. You can get tartan ones, though.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Please be aware that many over-the-counter cold cures should not be taken with alcohol, so you should be very careful about combining different forms of cold relief. If you are taking certain prescription medicines or are breastfeeding, you may not be able to take over-the-counter cold remedies, but may be allowed a small amount of alcohol. If you have any doubts, please check with a pharmacist or an appropriate health professional.
* You don’t need to use your best single malt whisky for this, and you probably wouldn’t be able to appreciate it anyway. Any cheap supermarket blended brand will do just fine. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
Have you not drunk it yet?!
Have a party, or keep it just a wee while longer for a Hogmanay party. However, save a dram, along with a lump of coal for warmth, for your First Footer to bring in your New Year (send your darkest guest out the back door and then let them back in through the front door just after Midnight, clutching the whisky & coal and a pound coin for prosperity).
By the way, if it is a single malt with a year on, it may be worth hanging onto & then selling, as my OH paid a massive sum for my 40th birthday single malt, which was made in the same year I was! We are now looking for the same year for our 50th pressies but we're hoping to buy one in advance0 -
