Baileys-alikes

I've looked at a couple of the Baileys clones - can't remember the names offhand - and it seems that some have sherry in them. I only have Baileys in my coffee, and I don't think sherry really makes a good mixer with coffee, though that obviously depends on individual taste. :D

So, is there a Baileys clone that is more like Baileys? i.e. whisk(e)y and cream?

I'd actually settle for the £8.odd bottles of Baileys if I could ever catch them with any in stock.

Any advice welcome. hic!

Martin.

Irish Meadow is a cheap alternative at about £3.50ish a bottle -not as strong though - I think about 17% proof, but does the job taste wise for me, very nice in coffee. Tesco do it and have seen before in Iceland.

OCTOBER/NOVEMBER WINS- HOLIDAY TO DUBAI/IPAD 2/KINDLE AND LOTS OF OTHER OTHER LITTLE BITS I LOVE COMPING!!!
  • I see the Irish Meadow has wine in it, but looking around, you aren't the only person to recommend it, so I'll give it a try in my coffee.

I did try one make that tasted a bit like toffee, and though I love toffee, I didn't like the taste in a drink. I can't remember what it was called and don't want to end up with the same.

Oh dear. As I was typing this, my o/h walked in and announced she just bought me another 70cl bottle of Baileys from the Coop - at over £13.
Oh well, maybe we'll save a tenner next week instead.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

Is it 17% or 17 proof? If it is 17 proof then it is 8.5%

Proof is double the percentage, we don't really use proof in the UK, we use % ABV (Alcohol by Volume)

Irish meadow is made with wine rather than whiskey which is why it's cheaper.

Dooley's is the toffee one made with vodka.

Tesco do their own brand Baileys-alike that is made with whiskey, they also do a cheaper one made with wine.

My husband loves Baileys & is never satisfied with the other brands until he tried the Asda one in the white bottle, think it is extra special. Think it is about £8 a bottle (75cl).

Lidl do their own called Queen Margot which is whisky and cream about £5. Tastes the same as Baileys IMHO.
