Sim card for 2G phone

Hi

I am giving my mother a Samsung X660 which I got about 2 & half years ago - which I therefore assume is a 2G phone.

My mother is on PAYG with T-Mobile but wants to change her network provider as she cannot get decent coverage - preferably to 3. I've been reading that the 3 sim card is a 3G card and am not sure if it would work in the phone.

I don't know if the other providers are 2G or 3G sim cards but I'm assuming they're 3G as well!

Can anyone advise on this please?

Thanks.

3 only allow 3g phones on their network now, and I think only 3 phones?

The other networks don't mind what you use.
  • Even if you got the phone unlocked and the 3 card worked (some do, some don’t) 3, due to their restrictive policies, would cut you of as soon as the saw a consistent 2G connection.

the other networks also have 3g cards as well as 2G cards, but do not restrict how you use them, i.e. you can put a voda 3G card in a 2G phone without any network interference, but while in a 2G phone the 3G services will not work
