Hi
Is there anyone out there who can help me. I keep getting a web page coming up with a name Platte Account and that i am owing them money. I have been a bit frightened when it auto pops up whilst reading the forum. Today i took the plunge and left it there a while, so i could read what it said. It said i was owing them £29.99 for a months subscription. I rung the free phone number up and the lady said it was a Get Films Now which i had 3 free trial days and then to pay if you didn't cancel. Well to be honest i don't even remember doing this. Obviously i must have because there is only my husband and myself here. He wouldn't even know how to get on to my laptop anyway. So the doing is all mine.
What i want to know is, am i liable to pay this amount or not. She said i should have read the T & C's. I informed the advisor who i spoke to that i hadn't had any emails stating what i had done.
Is there anything i can do at all?
Thanks , waiting in anticipation.
ps. she is sending something out to take it off my pc as i have refused to pay over the phone. She has stopped any other future payments and can't do any more until i pay up.
Is there anything i can do on my laptop to stop this happening to me again?

under their undertakings to the oft that must not
http://www.oft.gov.uk/news/press/2008/40-08- fail to make it clear in the sign-up process that the consumer is entering into a contract, and
- fail to make it clear in the sign-up process that 'pop-up' bills will appear on consumers' computers when payment becomes due or is outstanding.
The company has also undertaken that it will not rely on unfair terms in its contracts with consumers.
there are no cases of Platte taking people to court , they send an initial demand , then what MAY be a court summons (though it's not clear it is) but do not seem to want to test the legality in a court of law in case they lose (which if they have not warned you about the implications of what you are signing up for , they would !! )
it is also NOT always clear that people are aware what they are signing up for , or that they have signed up with and/or downloaded Plattes software , which again breaks their undertaking to the OFT (MBS is the old name for Platte Media)Ex forum ambassador
