Just so you are aware if you take your o2 mobile abroad they will charge you for recieving calls as well as making them. Even if you go through one of the pre-dial sites on the call checker. Also if its on voicemail they will charge you for any duration of message left so beware !!

All networks charge you to recieve calls while you are abroad.
The person making the call pays the standard amount, the person recieving pays the extra. Working on the basis that the person making the call might not know the person is abroad, so it would be unfair to add on extra costs0 -
As kai666 says, all roaming calls are charged by UK networks, though the Passport service of Vodafone may be useful for some.
If it's a contract phone on O2, then signing up for the International Traveller Service cuts charges a lot, for 10p per day. For longer trips, think of a foreign SIM card, calling cards, callback service, etc. An O2 phone with ITS can be diverted to European numbers for 17p per minute, or via another provider to a US number from inclusive minutes ...0 -
Thank you for you replies but the point Im trying to make people aware of is that even using pre dial discount numbers i.e on the message you recieve calls will cost you 10 p per min. On 02 this does not work as my bill reflects !! you will go through these pre dial companies but still get charged the full international call rate by 02.0

The dial through access numbers shown on the Call Checker section see
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/callchecker/
are for landline calls FROM the UK to International Destinatons.(The prices quoted against them in the callchecker are for calls from a BT line.) (Eg 0871 xxxxxxx 10p a minute.)
If you call them from outside the UK whilst roaming on a mobile,or from a landline you will be charged at the appropriate landline or mobile roaming rate .(Which want be the rate on the call checker.)
In fact if you called an 0871 10p number from your mobile in the Uk it would not cost 10p,and its not included in your inclusive minutes by any netwotk. I believe o2 charge 35p a minute to call them.PF.0 -
I'm sorry to say that I'm rather confused about what you are doing. As pricefighter says, call-through numbers are for calling foreign destinations - that means foreign phone numbers. So it could be useful to use these cheap calls providers to call a foreign SIM card.
But a UK phone in another country is not a foreign destination as far as the caller to it is concerned; the cost of diverting the call abroad is what the roaming charge is for (plus a big profit, it's true).
But if we've still got the wrong idea of what you are saying or doing, please explain a bit more.0 -

I got back from Australia not long ago - didn't cost me much at all, all text messages used 2xstandard rate from allowance0

one thing you can use the call through numbers for is divert "ALL" calls to the 0844/0845/0870 call through number that allow calls to the place you are going to. For example Russia. Tell your friends/families that after they dial your mobile number dial 007095........ Than the phone in Russia will ring, no roaming charges, and your friends/families only pay for the cost of calling your mobile and not to call in this case Russia. What we did when went to Russia last time with my parents put the number in speed dial for my parents. You can get some companies who will give you 0844/0845/0870/0871 which will divert calls to your chosen number automatically.
one company which I use now recently since getting O2 phones
