"Activate New Card" in HSBC Online Banking

I just saw this button when I logged into my online banking today. Does this mean they have already begun sending the new VISA debit cards?

From a message from HSBC to me:

"Please note that the new Visa/Master debit cards will only be available towards the end of 2008. The re-issue of cards to existing customers will take place gradually over a period of approximately 18 months.......

I confirm, the new functionality to activate a debit card via Personal Internet Banking was launched in preparation for the introduction of this service early next year. "

Thanks for taking the time to send them an e-mail. But, 18 MONTHS?!!!! I could always report my card as lost and get a replacement VISA :p

Yes but don't forget... all those customers... all those cards in the post... by all means, I'd rather be safe than sorry :D

    whats the difference?!
  • When I phoned HSBC the guy said don't worry about the "Activate New Card" link as it's part of a new "system" which hasn't actually gone live yet. Seems a bit rubbish to show the link if it doesn't do anything, yet...
  • Am I the only one who really, really doesn't mind Maestro? :D
