Put the cash in a box at the start of the month. See what is left at the end of the month. If you shop via the net then withdraw the cash from the box anyway

I'm now going to use the jars up in the cupboard, and then start stocking up on storecuboard ingredients so I can make more things from scratch so I can save more money.

Ordered my first online shopping .. just 1 weeks worth, as will have to budget that way or will lose track ... so 50.00 per week grocery budget.

Found that online I did not buy anything that I wouldnt use, and no experimental buys as cannot see anything unless physically go looking for it .. so online is a winner.

Only 1 problem ... tesco online do not accept visa electron, so had to put on my credit card, not too chuffed about that !!

    Millie xxxx

Do any of the other supermarkets accept visa electron?

Done my last shop in the Jan grocery Challange period. For all food, household, cleaning, pets and toileteries for 2 adults, 3 kids (5,8,10) and 2 cats I spent a grand total of £143.88:j Even so my cupboards, fridge and freezer are fit to bust. Yay

  • I think i need to start thinking about grocery shopping - we've spent nearly £130 just on food for me and DH this month, but all of cupboards and freezer are full. Eek - it's where to start.

Last shop of the January challenge delivered tonight. Spent £53.89 (loads of BOGOFs & a VERY helpful voucher code!!) Got loads and cupboards/freezer/fridge are bursting!! Only ordered fresh stuff (foodwise) as am going to use up contents of cupboards and freezer. Rest of it went on toiletries, washing powder (massive box on special offer at Tesco) and few other bits!

Brings January Grocery Challenge in at £2.30- under budget! Total Spent £297.70!!

Why not think about applying for a tesco credit card JUST for shopping (if you can be that disciplined!!) You then get double clubcard points on all your shopping! This is all I use my Tesco card for!!!!!!!

    Thats a good idea brummiebabe.

What I do is use my Egg Money Card for shopping and petrol so that at the start of the month I transfer money from my account to the egg card. That way I know how much money I have left for the month and I get cash back on my spend too :D

Well I said I would try to only spend £350 on groceries but in fact I do a lot of other things with that money too, pocket money, school lunch money, carparking and cleaning stuff, charity donations etc.

To date I have only spent just under £270 and will only need a loaf of bread and a little fruit (still waiting for the last kiwifruit from the fruitbowl to go first!), maybe a few spuds to see us through the weekend to end of month.

I am very pleased with this, quite good for us I would say as no food has been wasted beyond little bits on plates and the dogs eat those. The freezer is also full of stuff I have cooked this month too so I have not been skimping. So next month I should be able to do better shouldn't I? Think I should try to separate out this money more into different uses?

The key for us has been using a purse with cash. Even when I paid at Tesco with Tesco CC so I could get more points I later removed the cash from the purse. Only problem is I cannot remember where I put it!

Might be blowing the money not spent on a Breadmaker, not the idea really is it........? :o

Won't need to top up the freezer this weekend.....except for some pizza toppings. Once again I am running the freezer down and will do a large shop in February in order to fill it back up again.....thanks to Mr Tesco, and a points code that is. It probably would be slightly cheaper to do it at Asda myself, but am saving clubcard points for outings in the summer, and so don't see it as money spent, but 'money saved' in July / August.
