Help people...
I sold a camera last night on ebay which i had won in a competition. It is only 2 weeks old, but i knew i would never use it to it's full capacity hence the sale.
The winning bidder now will only go through with the transaction if i can provide the original reciept.....

If you hadn't stated that you would provide the reciept in the listing the buyer has no right now to ask. They should have read your listing thouroughly and asked any questions BEFORE bidding. They are now under contract to pay for the item as stated in your listing.
If you won the camera in a competition you wouldn't have a receipt anyway so why are they asking you for one?
I had a similar experience with a girl buying one of my items then changing her mind! Unfortunately she left me a neg because i told her that she had no chioce but to pay or receive a strike, she negged me but it was removed after i discovered she was only 16 and ineligible to use eBay

That was not the terms or conditions of your sale, and if they wanted you to provide the reciept they should have ASKED before placing their bid.
I trust you have explained the situation in how you obtained the camera to them.
I would report them as NPB as soon as you can if they persist in making demands or refuse payment on the grounds of no recieptIt's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Hi Snowman
If she doesnt pay you will have to file a NPB against them

The camera was listed as brand new, but i never mentioned any reciept or that it had been won in a competition....0

I would say in that case that it's not unreasonable to ask for a receipt.snowman wrote:The camera was listed as brand new, but i never mentioned any reciept or that it had been won in a competition....
I presume it's for insurance purposes. If the camera is valuable, say more than £100, a receipt is a very good idea, particularly if you intend to take it on holiday.
Of course, I think she's only actually entitled to a receipt from the person she bought it from, i.e. you.0 -
Hi Snowman
As you didnt mention a reciept in your listing you dont have to provide one.
The buyer should have asked all relevant questions before placing a bid.
As ive said if she doesnt pay start the NPB process to get you fee's back

This is a big problem on EBay; you buy "new" item and it breaksdown within 12 months you really have no comeback so I can see the sellers point. Your point of course is that by buying on EBay and not a recognised dealer the buyer is basically saying they are willing to accept a certain amount of risk to secure goods at a discounted price.
When I sell new items on EBay I keep the receipts and will only release them if the buyer has a problem at a later date....I don't want all and sundry knowing where I buy my goods from because in most cases they could buy the items themselves.
I have just posted a receipt to buyer from the summer and am awaiting to hear the outcome.
In this instance I would politely e-mail the buyer explaning that they have entered in to a (moral) contract (legal contract is still a grey area) but I would still use the word legal and that they should pay you in a timely fashion. If they haven't paid in reasonable time relist the item. Also point out that they should have asked any questions prior to bidding. I would then not spend anymore time on it and issue a NPB as soon as you can. With some folk you will never win.0 -
I think she might have been hoping she could take it back to the shop for a refund! Why else would she want the receipt?
Agree with all the advice. I think it IS a legal contract, and I would do all the eBay reporting and also file a small claims court claim against her if she won't pay up. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Well folks here is the latest
"Thanks for getting back.I have just called the Canon Helpline on
08705143723 and was advised that I would have to have a bill of purchase for the camera as this model is more than a year old since its initial introduction and thus a dated receipt would be necessary to commence any warranty .She was quite insistent on this . I explained the fact that it had been won in a competition and the receipt of purchase could not be traced but she reiterated that I would not be covered for any repairs should I have any problems. I 'm afraid, as a result, I shall have to withdraw my offer and apologise for the inconvenience I have put you to. I did bid in good faith and really wanted this deal to go through, but having bought another Canon camera on ebay which broke down 5 months after buying it, I have to be safe rather than sorry. I am ,in no way, casting aspersions as to the origins of the camera and categorically believe that your explanation is quite genuine but,if anything were to go wrong with it, I would not be covered.
Once again, I am sorry about this ,but I hope you will understand my position."
So I will have to start the eBay wheels in motion, real pain as i now won't be able to shift the camera before xmas..
