End of contract with Talktalk

My 18 month contract for phone and broadband with Talktalk expired in September. I'm currently paying £19.49 a month but I notice on their website they are now offering a phone line plus broadband for £15.49 a month (most basic package, but I don't need the free calls they offer so it's enough for me).

I will phone them soon to see what they can offer. Has anyone out there been in a similar position? Will they move me to this tariff without any hassle or will they insist I sign another 18 month contract? Will they be able to do any better, e.g. lower the price, or throw in a free wireless router (which new customers are entitled to)?

I don't mind signing up for another 18 months as had no problems so far (other than one week when the connection was very flaky but seems to have resolved itself) but if I am going to sign a contract, I want them to work for it!

I'll probably be moving house in the next 6 months so would rather not have to sign a new contract if I can avoid it (they make you pay a £30 reconnection fee if you move, and if I just signed up as a new customer at my new address, I could more than claim this back via the £75 cashback at Quidco).

Thanks in advance for any help!
If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...

Just be aware you may have to pay a ceasation charge, if you just cancel your connection in 6 months time (no MAC), then sign up again fresh ... though this could be anything up to £20 . . . it just depends if Talk Talk charge one or absorb the Openreach charge.

Bare the same thing in mind, but for cancellations if you extend your contract, as you'd have to pay off the remainder of the contract, or pay the house move fee (as you stated) instead - which would be a cheaper option for you.
  • If your moving home but staying with TalkTalk, there would be no cessation fee. But there would be a new 18 month contract and the £30 installation fee for a new line.
