Really!
Your NMS result may be an asymptotic convergence with trace dylithium crystal contaminant in your benzoate sample. :snow_laug

One possible way would the benzene ring fragmenting and rearranging itself to give a positively charged C5H5 ring which would give a m/z 65. Check out the diagram at the bottom of this link , given above by albertross.
It could rearrange itself in a similar fashion to that.
Thats the only way i can see how you would get a m/z = 65.
But I don't know very much about this area of chemistry - I haven't had to analyse many mass spectra.
Also have a look at this page , its got a list of common mass spectrum fragments0 -
All very amusing, esp. grumpy's query, which brought us down to earth.
I'm sure I've seem some discounted flange baskets available on ebuyer, but heard a rumour that they are out of stock, due to a Christmas rush, inspired by a recent episode of Tweenies, investigating the amazing di-polar isotopic entropy/heat absorbtion properties of polymer based flange baskets, which can reduce the average spend on post Christmas duracells, down from £10.30/milliwatt, to an amazing 9.63/milliwatt.
Over the lifetime of an average 2-5 year olds Xmas toy, this could save in excess of £7.50, allowing another 25 minutes of talk/text time on a 3G network, which is surely a more important way of spending a toddlers money, than powering a crappy plastic train.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Amazingly, there are 905 (soon to be 906) entries for "flange basket" on google, I never realised that the Tweenies viewers were that internet savvy.
P.S. If the mouse cleaning didn't work, don't forget to optimis(z)e your data path, and if still having problems, suggest buying a new MS, they are currently selling for around $2.5k on ebay.
Always wanted one myself, but the price of Duracells, and Mach 10 Quasar Turbo Razor blades, have always held me back.
Maybe I'll splash out when the GP gives me 6 months ("to live", not "to appointment"), if only to avoid the inheritance tax.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

I'll definitely look into that C5H5 possibility! And I'll also take a look at the stuff on ebay!!0 -

I just wondered if you had got your !!!!!! spec from Toys "R" Us as i had heard they had been prone to developing technical faults. they weren't sure if it was an intermittent fault between the !!!!!! spec and the anaylyser or between the VDU and the operator. Either way they are suggesting a full system reboot.
Oh and by the way non of ths affects your statutary rights under the sale of goods act!
Keep on taking the tables....apart from carzychemist who I think may have already had enough. Just like Kekulé (Friedrich August Kekulé von Stradonitz to give him his full title........DOH!) when he sat there obviously not taking anything looking into the flames working out the delocalised electrone cloud...methinks there may have been other clouds in the room! There is nothing as certain as death and taxes

It's been a while since I've done any chemistry.....
Normally 65 is is C5H5+ formed from the loss of C2H2 from the C7H7+. This normally observed if you have a benzyl group. However, here you have a para substituted Benzoyl ester and I cannot see obviously how the C7H7 ion would be created in this case.
Cannot see anything in Williams and Fleming (Spectroscopic Methods in Organic Chemistry) either.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:
