It's good that you don't take yourself too seriously.

When it was suggested that it was not difficult to fit the card yourself, it wasn't a joke.

Buy the FireWire PCI card(you can purchase a 'brand name model' if you like) and we'll talk you through fitting it. It will take you five to ten minutes and you will be proud of yourself.

However you look at it, you weren't truthful when you wrote
Thanks for your suggestions, have tried them...........

Remember, we know what we are talking about and you don't. So, you should be following our advice. Not thinking that you know best.

Buying a new camcorder wouldn't be quicker. Order the card and you could be working on your DVDs by Wednesday.

Sometimes you should just try to listen. ;)
  • Hello! I know people stopped writing on this thread a while ago but I wanted to ask Lemonade_Lifestyle, have you bought a new camcorder yet? Because I found a way around the USB problem (the instructions are on the initial link you posted, obviously updated from last year).

Check this out (an aid for anybody with the same problem with DCR-HC18E and who have been directed to this forum via google as I was) :

    http://support.sony-europe.com/dime/downloads/downloads.aspx?site=odw_en_GB&m=DCR-HC18E&f=usbdrven_vista

It works, but some Vista specific applications will not recognise the camcorder so, it is best to use a program such as Cyberlink Powerproducer 6 with which, all is well.

    :)
