Holiday entitlement for part-time?

Can someone make me understand the holiday entitlement for a part-time job? I work Mon-Fri 9-12 , so it's 15 hours a week.
I was told that in one year my entitlement is 8 days. (as it's pro-quota
)
I really don't understand well how this goes. In the 8 days that I get holiday I am paid only for 3 hours a day like usual.
What I dont understand?
Let's assume that I have 2 part-time jobs. Lets say that my morning part-time would be 20 hours/ week. If I would have another part-time in the afternoons and would want holiday from that too I would ask for the holiday in the same period right? So I would have 10 full days of holiday... and be payed for 10 full days !!!
So from this logic is it normal that I have only 8 days a year (payed as a part-time for 3 hours a day)?

How many hours a week do full timers work, and how many days leave do they get?0

No. If you work 5 days a week and do 3 hours a day then you should be paid 24 days at 3hrs a day or a total of 72hrs per year.
Your second job is worked out similarly.
So if you have two jobs that are 20hrs each a week, you would be entitled to what you said, based on an 8hr working day.0 -
Thanks. I thought that I was wright... but my manager was very convinced that it should be like that. I don't think he didin't understand ... I think they are cheap and try to get away as cheap as possible.
I was put on holiday when I took time off when my father died ... so I was told that if I want more holiday this year i have to take it unpaid as I finished my entitlement.
The people here work 9-5 with a break at noon, so I guess this means a 37.5 hours a week and get 28 days holiday (bank holidays + 20 days)
I don't know if I can chase them now because I am looking for a full time job and I may need recomandations from here. But at least after I leave I can tell them that they stolen from me my holiday
Is there any official document about this that I can find? I read something but it just said that the holiday entitlement for part-timers is "pro-quota" and they gave the example of someone working part-time 2 days a week that they wouldn't get 20 days wich is logical... but nothing about a part-time Mon-Fri ...0 -
I do think you are right.
If you work 5 days a week just like the full time workers then you should get the same number of days holidays per year off as them. It's only when you don't work the full 5 days a week that it has to be worked out using hours.
Look at it this way - how could you ever have a fortnight off for a summer holiday if you are only entitled to 8 days off in a year?0 -

Chase them. As I've said, pro-rata, you're due 24 days at 3hrs per day so 72hrs in total. That works out at 9 days fulltime wage based on an 8hr day.0 -
Sorry, but I think Mess0804's employer is right.
full-timers work 37.5 hours per week and get 20 days holiday, in addition to Bank Holidays.
Mess works 15 hours per week so her holiday should be 15/37.5 * 20 = 8 (exactly).
In addition, as full timers get Bank Holidays as well as "holiday", then she should get 15/37.5 * 8 = 3.2, [STRIKE]but these are Bank Holidays meaning that some of the 8 days would have to be used for the other BHs not covered by the BH allowance.[/STRIKE] Edit: not they don't, at least not if the full timers get BHs in addition to their 20 days. Each day is only 0.4 of the OP's entitlement. So 3.2 would cover 8 full BHs
All this assumes that the entitlement for full timers has been correctly posted here, especially, that they get BHs in addition to their 20 days.
The statutory minimum is now 24 days, but this includes BHs. So the statutory minimum, pro-rata, is 9.6 days - but if full timers have a contractual right to 20 + 8 (BHs) then a part timer is entitled to pro-rata contractual holiday as above (8 + 3.2).
I think we really need to know what the OP's contract states i.e. working hours and what the full timers contracts state about contractual holiday.
Have I misunderstood ....?

Debt_Free_Chick and the employer are correct re hours. I have a couple of part time employees and that's the calculation I use.
Great fun had by all when Easter's early and then leave has to be used for the bank holiday. Then I suddenly am labelled the b1tch from hell for not bending the rules.

It still doesn't sound right to me.
The OP works 5 days per week yet she doesn't have enough holidays to take a fortnight off? Someone who worked 2 days per week doing her hours would have, seeing as they are not in the office for the other 3 days per week.
If the OP takes all the bank holidays off then she is entitled to absolutely no other leave?0 -
I think thats an unfair way to calculate holiday for part time staff.
I work 4 days a week 9-2.30 - full time staff get 20 days holiday per year plus all bank holidays.
Based on my hours I get 16 days holiday each year plus all bank holidays. This entiltles me to also have 4 weeks off, as I need to only take 4 days to have an entire week. Which puts me even with a full time member.Any spelling mistakes are entirely on purpose to check you're paying attention

she'd be entitled to 8 full time days off. but as she only works part hours each day, she gets more days! so it's 8 days x number of hours, say 8 for ease of calculation -= 64 hours. which at 4 hours a day actaukly would = 16 days IYSWIM.
I'd get them to give you paid hours holiday entitlement in writing meself...Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0
