when i say constructive, i mean has anybody else had this same stupid problem and how did they deal with it.

there isn't a way to deal with it, other than comply with the rules and regs. what may seem picky to you, is what the tester has to explain to the minerstry man why he has passed this vehicle. 2 options, 1, he didn't spot it, 2, he thought he'd let it go. either it doesn't look good for the tester. how long before he loses his license, which could mean job but almost certainly a pay cut. are you going to top his wages back up or pay his morgage for letting your sunstripe through? thought not!!

to be honest he was extremely rude and arrogant while talking to both of us so I would happily see him in a queue at the job center, he even tried to give her the car back with a dent in the passenger side which he admitted he hadnt noticed when he took the car in the first place

if i really wanted a sunstrip i would fit shorter wipers for the mot

why yo need it though as you sais its no deeper than the sunvisors you pull down

I'm definitly getting smaller wipers for my test so it should be less of a problem, its also going to a differnt test station as evans halshaw are getting no more business from us (oops i mentioned their name)

as far as it being no deeper than the visor, I dont know about yourself but when I drive, I often find low level sunlight coming in at the side of the visor around the rear mirror can be extremely distracting, and potentiolly dangerous which is why the sticker is there

Can you not get a suntrip printed in reverse and stick it on the inside cutting an appropriate hole for the rear view mirror? If I understand what other posters have said correctly, that would prevent the wipers hitting them, and stop the MOT failure.

its a nice idea but it doesnt get round the obscuring the view thing.
  • For a non obstructive visor it seems to be rather large:rolleyes:

as for your other comments, im sure the only regret the mechanic has was not failing you on a few other things or tearing your sun strip

Maybe graduated transparency in the design?

your car could also easily fail for a magic tree hanging from your rear view mirror, this isnt unheard of,as this could also obscure the drivers vision.

get a sunstrip that has a graduated tint like anewman says, fit it from the inside then it wont foul on the wipers blades,im surprised you never failed for torn wiper blades aswell.
    ...work permit granted!

the stickers are primarily there to block out low level sunlight and don't come down any further than the equivilant of the sun visor. the view of the road is NOT obstructed though.

does nobody have anything constructive to add to this?

Yes, it's a fail as it enters the swept area of the wipers. Things that can also fail an MOT for obstructing vision are fluffy dice hanging down from the rear view mirror if they're in line with the screen and a satnav mounting bracket attached to the windscreen.

    It quite rightly failed.
