Thanks, but my dad and aunty both went to her funeral (in fact, I think my aunty organised it!) and told me the month and year it was (1967), yet it still doesn't appear in the records I have searched online. I've tried her married and maiden name. The marriage certificate gives her age at that time so I know roughly when she was born, though my dad is unsure of her birthday. I just wondered if there are some other records I can search

    Going for a shower now!

Could she not have had her birth registered and that is why there is no birth certificate. Not sure if it was compulsory in those days or there is some other answer.

Hmmmm I have a confession I haven't done a binbag dance and believe me I have plenty to put in more than one binbag..lol. I think my neighbours might give me weird looks if they see me wearing a binbag and shoving bits down the front..lol.

Froddy what is her approx DoB?

The census was done 1881, 1891 etc. but there are circumstances where people are omitted from it. My mum has been doing some research. She has found infants who died and subsequent babies were given the same name as the dead child. Think that happened at least twice! I am fairly sure births have had to be registered since late Victorian Times - that's not to say though, that some weren't. Other reasons might be if illegitimate children were born to unmarried mothers and brought up by grandparents as if they were the child of the grandparents. Those births might not have been registerd IYSWIM. Sometimes you have to use parish records which means, of course, lots of travel if it is in a different part of the country.

    Pigpen are you feeling better?

Anybody seen AnWsMum? She was partying last night I believe...

  • Froddington - census would be the best step. You know the month and year of death, and presumably the location, so you find the date of the preceeding census (every 10 years - compulsory entry!!!) to find where she was at that time. That would be your starting point. From that, you can confirm who else lived at the same address, which will give you additional info to work back from. Any such research is time consuming but - wow - some of what we have found has been truly amazing and well worth it, although to be fair, DB has done most of the work so far.
