  • The steering wheel locked? I find that difficult to believe. More likely the power steering failed.

Probably not much more than the mechanics working at Ford, Chevrolet, or Fiat.
  • You didnt almost die

Your car experienced a mechanical failure which meant some of the more advanced safety features were not available thus making your car harder to control

Your entitled to a free repair and not much else

I appreciate you were worried but could you have been any more of a drama queen?

all we needed was a burning line of petrol chasing you:rotfl:

    thats what i though.
i think the op presumes the £60 per hour labour goes straight into the mechanics pocket!

Most retire at 28 and don't need to ever work again.
Unless they make a mistake and leave a nut off.
    Happy chappy

Thank God- Some how we survived this traumatic experience.

Talk about overreacting. All that happened was the power steering failed so it got a bit heavy and required you to put some effort into it. Cars brake perfectly well without ABS too and because the engine stopped, there was no servo assistance but the brakes would still have worked but again, required more effort.

If you had actually tried turning the wheel and pressing the brakes harder instead of poncing about, they'd have worked perfectly fine and whilst it would have been a bit of an event, it certainly wouldn't have been traumatic. Basically, your car would have been the equivalent of how it would have been to have driven a big heavy car in the 1960's.

One of my cars is completely devoid of power steering, ABS and airbags yet it's perfectly driveable but, as I mentioned before, requires a bit more effort from the driver.

What do you want compensation for? For being someone who has no strength and instantly panics at the slightest thing? Sorry, they don't give compensation for being a pansy.

To the OP what exactly do you want compensation for? Nobody was hurt, it hasnt cost you anything, I just dont get it!

Your car wil be fixed properly next time, with an apology, one would think...isnt that enough?
  • For the people who are slagging the op off has this ever happened to you ?????

I got my car back after an accident, after a few days I was travelling at 60mph on a busy road with my 6mth old in the back when my car died the speed sensor whet, I was left stranded in the middle of the road with traffic travelling at 60mph on each side, luckily a lorry driver was high enough up to see I had a small child, he stopped and asked a few other strangers to help get my car safely off the road. I was never so glad, it was a very scary experience - I had a go at the garage to no avail and to be honest just gave up and put it down to experience but that doesn't make it any less scary, for months went travelling that stretch of road I relived the experience .

It's easy for people to say you alive what are you complaining about but until it happens to them, I sympathise and my advise would be to give off hell at the gagrage and see if you can get a service or something free of charge

    Good luck
Busy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:
