  • Silly question, but why isnt the UK Driving License accepted as a form of photo id?

I only want to go to Nürburgring, do a couple of laps & come back, there should be a limited use passport, as im 27, and have no intention of going abroad on holiday when there is so much to do in my own country.

Heard rumors of people travelling on Driving License's, but don't want to get to the chunnel & have to turn back!

British citizens must carry a valid passport for travel outside the Common Travel Area. There is no grey area on this, and you will certainly be refused boarding if you try to travel to Germany sans passport.

Because it isn't an ID. OK it says who you are but it as sure as hell doesn't give your nationality which is one of the main purposes of a passport.

your rumours may relate to the US/Canada, where until recently it was possible for their citizens to use a driving licence as ID when travelling between the two. In theory it had to be backed up by eg a birth certificate as proof of nationality but most of the time it wasn't asked for.

Buying a passport so that you can go the Ring isn't a waste of money! Once you've been, you will more than likely want to go back again and again – and I'm speaking from experience here! It's amazing and two or three laps just isn't enough! Since our first trip in May 2007, my friend and I were hooked and we now go about four or five times a year. :D

Incidentally our passports have been checked on the Chunnel both ways every single time. And if your car looks a little bit 'special', you are making yourself more of a target as you are likely to be pulled over just so that they can check that it's not stolen! (bringing proof of ownership of the car is highly recommended!). My friend's Skyline R33 is a particular favourite – we get pulled over very frequently!
If I don't respond to your posts, it's probably because you're on my 'Ignore' list.
