  • I have just spoken to Alamo.
For 5 days in Miami they require a cash deposit of $500 plus plane tickets as security. The deposit is then posted back to the home address, not given on return of the car.
Seems it is possible but is, of course, more costly.
The car has to be pre-booked, you cannot just turn up at the airport and rent.
The UK site does not accept Visa Electron either.

I think we will just get taxis.........!!

Plane tickets as security? An A4 e-ticket printout that can easily be replaced? I can see how this is worth loads. And they're going to put $500 in the post are they?

Does Alamo think it's still 1956? We still have paper tickets and nothing other than paper money?
  • I know, I managed to get this information on my third attempt at calling them, they didn't know that a cash payment was even possible until I pointed out the relevant section on their website. I'm still not sure how reliable the information I was given is.
I'm certainly not going to risk paying for the car here as I;m sure I will encounter problems when I get there.
