I would have thought when the likes of Aqua decline an application it's not because of 'no history', it's down to an Electoral Roll issue (failure to register or maybe no traceability over recent years) or negative information on your credit file.

You need to approach your bank. With a £30K salary going through the account (and assuming the account has been run well, and for a reasonable time?) you ought to qualify for a credit card. After all, no-one knows your financial circumstances better than your current account provider.

Just applied and was told that unfortunatly I have not been accepted and that I should now wait 3 months before reapplying. This is now two searches on my file!!!!

Same situation here. Hsbc refused my application (income over 30k)...

Moved to halifax and got cc within 6 months opening the account. They gave me 500 pound on it with a 27.9% APR.

The factors are I have been at my address under 1 month, and have only added myself to the ER a few weeks ago..... brought this up to Aqua who told me its nothing to do with my address as they would just ask for proof of address

Your CRA file won't have been updated yet. At this time of year (August-November) the borough audit is undertaken and monthly updates of ER information are suspended until December 1st.

When I suggested earlier you approached HSBC, I meant by visiting your branch manager...not by making an online application.

You should not now do anything else until you've viewed your credit reports after they've been updated in December with the ER information.

Just a thought...have you updated HSBC with your new address?...and, equally importantly, have they updated their systems?

Will wait under Dec - Jan now. I am desperate for a contract phone but am concerned this will damage my score be adding another search!

I'm not on the Electoral roll yet and i got a contract with t-mobile, don't have extremely bad credit but it isn't great either. Try them but as YB said don't do wild!!!
