eBay's Attitude to Software Piracy

...is typified by item number 5843260668.

The software in question is normally over £1000 so it's pretty clear what's going on here. This seller (plus a few similar) has been reported to eBay a number of times in the past but to no avail (it's in my interest to look after Sage).

It's now possible to become a "Trusted Powerseller" merely by selling counterfeit/stolen/whatever you want to call it gear. Yet the guy here who put up one XBox 360 had his account suspended!

:xmassign: to all at eBay. Next year will be tougher for you.
Can I help?

    Do explain!
  • I agree, their attitude is poor, and all they are basically interested in is raking in the fees. Personally, I report every single Item I see if I think it's dodgy/ fake etc.
This does take a bit of time out of my day, but if eBay doesn't do it it's left to the consumers to protect themselves.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.

What is Microsofts stance on this I wonder... do the big guns look at ebay ...
  • Yes, I've bought things on Ebay; Yes, I've sold things on Ebay .... but my opinion of Ebay is that they have no control over their own business now!!!

As we all know, it's rampant with forgeries, stolen & 'dodgy gear', and there doesn't appear to be any 3rd party organisation to control this site. If some of the items on Ebay were to be sold at a car boot sale, the Trading Standards would be jumping on the them. And yet, because of the size of Ebay (and the wonderful taxes they're paying to the Government!!), everything is just getting swept-under-the-carpet.

Ebay must (do!!!) know how bad things are .... just look at their TV advert .... first time in years they've done this, which to me, 'smacks' of them trying to create an honest & acceptable image. Afraid they're going to have to do much better than this.
It has taken about 4,500,000,000 (4.5 billion) years for the Earth to form as it is now .........
and it'll only take about another 100 years for mankind to really **** it up!!!!

This is a true story, I couldn't believe what ebay done. I reported a guy for selling a pirate copy of Adobe Photoshop, I mean he was selling it for £8 and it even said on the listing "This is a copy". So anyway what do ebay do? They remove my listing and give me a warning, Guess what I did? I used someone elses photo.

I couldn't believe it, They did nothing to the guy I reported but shafted me for something every other person on ebay does.

Yeah but like you see what i'm getting at. I used a stock photo, hardly a crime as every other listing you look at uses a stock photo, yet they let this scam artist of.

I'll not be helping out ebay again.

Ebay recognise that 40% of addidas products are fakes!

Has anyone thought that we're doing their work for them when we report items. We don't owe ebay anything (except a load of money if you sell) and nor do we owe the brand owners anything. If they've got a problem, they can sort it.
  • This is not necessarily about doing eBay any favours - God knows they don't deserve any as they never do us any!!

For me it's about helping naive individuals who stupidly believe they are getting a bargain and also me and you who end up paying more for our goods because some s**t thinks its OK to do this and makes lots of tax free income along the way.

Also, the ones who pass off fakes as the real thing are the worst - - I bought a Mont Blanc pen off eBay and already owning one relaised that this was a fake (albeit good) when I compared it to my shop bought one _pale_. I got a full refund so credit to the seller on this occasion!!!!

Sorry for the rant but you have to be so careful and it frustrates the hell out of me!
