Bicarb and white vinegar for a blocked loo

Options
hi there

right - I use vinegar and bicarb for most household things these days. A true convert ;)

Anyway, my toilet appears to be a little blocked. it's still flushing but not properly all the time, as if there is a block somewhere. Want to try sorting this myself before the problem gets worse and a plumber is needed. I'm a pretty useless female when it comes to plumbing - can't even unscrew a u- bend :rotfl:

Will Bicarb and vinegar work - and what kind of quantities will I need. Alternatively I have some heavy duty kill the environment stuff from B&Q.

Any suggestions???

Thanks

I don't believe that vinegar and bicarb will work. You know what's blocking the loo! (yuk) and, since it is bound by some natural agent you'd think the various manufacturers would have come up with something I think of as "BOGBUSTER" that would break down the binding agent and so let things dissolve and wash away.

It can't be that hard to find something, surely?

Anyway, I know of, and have found, no such thing - so I think you're stuck with your heavy duty stuff. Unless there's someone who knows better?

I hope so, 'cos I'd like the answer to this one.

    :)

  • You haven't been sticking baby wipes and girly products down the loo have you? :naughty:;)

The last time I had a blocked loo was when someone accidently knocked a whole loo roll into it, and rather than fish it out they tried to FLUSH it away

Of course it got stuck round the u-bend but was too far out of reach to pull it out so they only thing I could was to keep pouring thick strong bleach down the loo until it eventually rotted it away - a few days it took! Meanwhile the local pub's loo and a bucket came in very handy! :rotfl:

C-Q I PROMISE that I haven't been putting naughty thing down the toilet.

    Honestly.

But, I seem to have a very odd drainage system going on in the flat. The last owners were DIY enthusiasts :rotfl:

One thing that MAY help is to put some cheap slimy stuff down the loo. Bubble bath, washing up liquid, hair conditioner etc. It sometimes helps the blockage to slip down the pipe.

How about a wire coat hanger unwound to its full length and pushed gently around the bend?

  • when we had a blockage we called out a plumber for asked if i had a mop. got him the mop, he then using the handle end rammed it down the loo quite vigourly, flushed it, it was clear then charged me £45. it took me longer to type this out. i didnt have any more problems, he said it was probly something the kids had flushed down, or a rim block thingy. (dont use them anyway)

  • I went to a Chinese supermarket on Oldham Road, Manchester yesterday. I got 3k of bicarb for 1.99 + vat. They alaso sold 5k packets. I also got 5lts white vinegar for 1.60 no vat.

This supermarket has branches in Birmingham and London.

    I hope this helps someone.
