**Pleae help , Is it safe to order from HONG KONG????**

Hi MSE's ,

I am sort of new to ebay and i was wondering if it is safe to order from hing kong?

I want to buy this case and the sellers feedback seems excellent but i need to know if

1. it is safe?

2. is there any hidden charges

3. The postage cost is very small , when it gets into the uk will i have to pay anything to customs or something like export charges or anything.

I don't want to be ripped off so please help.

I have also heard that when you buy from some sellers in hong kong that they can hack your ebay account etc , is this true . Is it totally safe???

Thank you very much
 I am great , yes I am

    relatively, see 3.1.

    >> 2. is there any hidden charges / will i have to pay anything to customs or something
    >> like export charges or anything

the only charges would be import duty / vat / customs etc. If the item + postage comes to less than £18 you wont have to pay anything extra. If it's over that, there's a not particuarly huge but possible chance you'll have to pay at least 17.5% vat on the total, plus various other duties. Expect around 30% total on top of what you buy if so, although most honk kong sellers should know the deal and delare a low value just in case.

china's home to the knock off, but in my experience they at least do a good job at it. if it's something obvious (tech goods, branded clothing, etc, NOT hong kong's finest home produced furniture or memorabilia or a local paper or something) then it's usually easy to spot. any white box goods are a deffinate sign. that said, like i say they're usually ok and will work fine for the most part, just not the best quality.

bear in mind hong kong = UK until a few years back. I believe lik-sang (the world's highest respected online video game importer) were based there until sony shot them down. china's a more obvious suspect.

    ridiculous. that's all ;)

    Answers your own question really.

We ordered a £250 camera from HK, cost us £28 if tax and clearance fees. From what I've read it does vary.

    Hi

Just to let you know that this happened to my bf. His ebay account and email were both hacked into and taken over. Ebay account was subsequently closed due to whoever had hacked into it trying to sell dodgy items!

On the other hand I've bought things myself on ebay from Hong Kong and from China and I've always been OK. I didn't have to pay any customs or anything as the sellers always marked the items as 'gift'

I have bought several items from Hong Kong and China and no probs at all. I think you just have to look at their feedback and how long they have been trading on Ebay and decide for yourself :)

:( well... my point was no hong kong users get special priveladges on their accounts allowing them to "hack" in to others easier, just because they happen to be from hong kong. consequently you shouldn't be any more likely to have account security problems buying from sellers there than anywhere else.

Obviously if someone is lax with their internet security then anyone can hack them, Hong Kong sellers or not. To keep yourself safe online get advice from the techie board, if someone can get your ebay and paypal details then they can easily go further and get email access and banking stuff as well. Only you can protect yourself, no one else can.

The link worked fine. Maybe the item just doesn't weigh much?
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.
