Firefox 1.5 stability problems?
Comments

1.5 actually works much better for me that any previous version ot Firefox.
I used to get the problem of Firefox freezing and then not shutting down (when you get the 'profile already in use warning') a few times a week
Hasn't happened once with 1.5 - and I've been using it for months.
On the negative, Firefox certainly takes up lots of memory. And I close it whenever I can because of the memory leak when it's left running too long.
Despite all its problems, I still think Firefox is the best browser out there - mainly down to the amount of customizations you can peform. Whenever I try to use any other browser (and I give them all a good test) I just find it take o lot of extra time to do things I can do very quickly and easily with Firefox.0 -
I use the latest version of Mozilla (as opposed to Firefox). It takes a second or so to load on my fast AMD 3700+ PC and maybe 5 seconds on my old PIII 666Mhz PC, and it's also VERY stable - I think it crashed once about 18 months ago.0

I'm using Firefox 1.5 now and it's using 24.8Megs but IE is using 32.3Megs and I'm not even using it.
Edit: My mistake, Windows Explorer not IE....:o0 -
Try Opera if you find it's using a lot of memory. Opera sometimes eats up a lot too but very rarely. It loads quicker than firefox (both warm and cold loads) and is a truly tabbed application so you can open up dozens of tabs without it using up a lot more resources.
Having said that I've found Firefox 1.5 to be fine. It's definitely slightly quicker doing certain things than 1.07 was. I just use it for development though, Opera is my browser of choice.
I think by default Firefox is set to use up as many resources as are available, hence it sometimes shows up at over 100mb in the task manager."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Just chatted to a mate of mine and his Firefox is using 39Megs and Thunderbird 37Megs. Mine is still only 27Megs and I haven't had any probs like freezing.
Edit: Big spike when I post this reply.0 -
