Don't say that. I am now kinda considering spending the next 9 months saving up for a Nissan Almera Tino if that went wrong I'd be off motoring for life.

they are fairly reliable, but its an unfortunate reality about motoring, things can and will go wrong and usually when you least want it too, especially at the price range you are buying at.
as a few others have said at least if you get it repaired then you know the engine is in good shape.

I bought it from one of those people that Trade from home.

He/she was a dealer then, so you should have some come back.

Contact the seller and explain what has happened and see if they will help you.
  • If it is a dealer trading from home they should give you at least 1 month warranty. Hopefully they will pay for the repair.

However, even at £600, if I were you I'd get it fixed, because you will need to spend a lot more than this to buy a similar car with a new cam belt, as you said in your earlier post.

Do you really think that a garage can 'fix' it for £600?

That is naive and misleading the OP. They've got to get in there etc before they can even start to assess the damage. That in itself is a good few hours. Then the head will have to be tested - who knows what that will find. Add costs of new cam belt kit, possibly water pump, coolant, oil and filter to name just a tiny few bits and bobs....

This sort of work can escalate, OP needs to know that.

Yeah that's what I thought. I think it's the scrap yard or ebay for the car then. I'll make the decision once I get the V5C as I only have the new Keeper bit.
Can't see what good contacting the seller will do as they couldn't have known how much life was left in the cambelt and I was told to have it changed asap.

Guess I have to suck it up and move on. Time to load up that Oyster card again. :rotfl:

Alternatively, you could see how much it would cost to fit replacement engine, and see if you could source a reliable one, either from reputable breaker or eBay. Clearly if more than you can afford not an option, but current scrap value will be less than £100, and the value of a 9 year old car with dead engine will be minimal.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

£600 isn't a bad estimate price they will have to guess and go from experiance and they hyavn'ty i'm guessing mentioned water pump coolent etc.

often there just the two intake valves on these which hit the head and just replace them there only £7 each and the rest if fine unless your going some rpm in which case it can take a few more valves etc. rare to damage the head or piston much though

Forget needing a new engine though its often cheaper to just fix the old one get the garage to take the head off and they'll be able to tell you how bad it tis head off's not to long a job either (apart form the stupid filter design on them)

make sure though if you decide to repare to chnage both the aux belt and IMo the pump (although not essential its just good practice the pump chnaged).

If you bought it from a dealer (even a dealer working from home) then sale of goods applies and they should repair it or refund.
