Tesco's Flu jab £5

Myself and my better half went for a flu jab at Tesco's today. The pharmacist. kindly let us know that we could get the jab with £5 off (ie £5) if we got the voucher from the Actimel packs. These were also on offer - 2 packs for £4.50. So a worthwhile saving. They were also very professional on the flu jab. I think it runs to the 21st Nov.

Aren't these free from your own doctor? I havn't had one for several years, but I never paid for mine.0

mmmm yes they are free at your gp . My wife is a practice nurse and can confirm that all doctors should offer them free.0
-
I thought it was only free if you were above a certain age, ie 60?0

Isnt it dependant on age or medical condition. Say some one who is healthy wants to have 1 they cannot get 1 on the national health even if they offered to pay.
I suffered one year with all sorts of medical problems (run down) and requested one and offered to pay through my local doctors sugery and they refused.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -
Generally, that's true.Isnt it dependant on age or medical condition. Say some one who is healthy wants to have 1 they cannot get 1 on the national health even if they offered to pay.
However, your GP doesn't have to justify giving you a flu jab, so if he chooses to it will be free. It'll be his decision after you ask him (always try and ask your GP during a consultation, not a nurse, it'll be quicker for him to give you the jab and get rid of you than explain why he can't do it!) and there always used to be a financial incentive for each jab, though the scheme has changed and I'm not sure how the present one works.
But definitely ask your GP before paying T*sco £5.0 -
Free flu jabs
Each autumn, from September, an annual flu vaccine is provided free to all those aged over 65 and all those over six months in the following clinical risk groups:
serious heart disease
serious lung disease, like emphysema, bronchitis, cystic fibrosis or asthma
serious kidney disease
a long-term health problem, like diabetes
if you have had a stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA)
a weak immune system – for example, from chemotherapy or radiotherapy treatment for cancer, steroid treatment or HIV/Aids
Your GP may also advise you to have a flu jab if you have a serious liver disease, Multiple Sclerosis or other degenerative disease of the central nervous system.
If you live or work in a nursing or care home or similar long-term residential accommodation, your employer may offer you the option of having the flu jab.
