Another member pointed out the Epson SX400 in currys £65, over 100 in some other places. Inks are around £23 for a full set of original inks (individual cartridges too saves having to replace the full cartridge when one colour runs out) and it also has a LCD screen, usual for photos. I just bought the model down SX200 for 50 in the sale but the price has gone back up now

Epson D92 less than £40 Compatible InkJet Cartridges from Choice for £2.50

Personally I would go for the Canon IP 4500 and use genuine canon cartridges,( twice the price for the printer and four times for refills) but I'm not going to struggle on a Students grant.

I 2nd Epsons always cheap to run on compatibles.

NO ideal how much you want to spend but the Epson Rx685 printer/scanner is around £100 and inks are under £2 each

We had to return the Epson D120 'cos the print quality was appalling. I ended up printing everything about 6 times, cleaning the heads between each attempt and still couldn't get a readable (let alone "acceptable") output.

The Canon iP4500 we bought instead has been fantastic: the best black print quality I've seen from an inkjet, well designed, long-lasting ink, and I just bought 10 replacement cartridges off eBay for less than £1.50 each (including postage).

For a student, though, it might be cheaper in the long run to get a cheap black-and-white laser printer...
