Snagglepuss16, it was a letter confirming discharge that I received - in fact I got 2, a kind of initial discharge and then a final one when everything was completed. It took over 12 months from the date I made final payment though. I would contact your trustee just to make sure and see how long discharges are normally taking.
  • contacted my trustee and today and they said i dont get a certificate thats only for sequestration. I just get a letter saying everything is done and a final accounts list. what would happen if i ran a credit report on myself now? i made final payment may 2009?

I've posted this on the thread above previously but not sure if the link will work - some useful info on there if it does though. Basically, what's on your credit report will depend on what the individual lenders have put on there..but probably there will be lots of entries showing payment defaults;-
    • The credit agreements that fell under the trust deed will stay on your credit file from 6 years from the date that you took the trust deed (date of default on your file). HOWEVER many companies will not have updated the file correctly. This means a) the dates of default will be wrong and they won't drop off your file at the right time and b) may not be marked as settled which they should be once you finish the deed and have the letter to prove discharge. To sort this out, you need to write to all applicable creditors, enclosing a copy of the letter. there is a template letter to send which tells them it is against the Ombudsman guidelines to mark the default any later than the date you signed the deed - PM me if you want it. It can be a painful process to gt your file updated (you obviously need to access your credit report to see which entries are wrong - some of mine were marked up to a year late). I found I was able to contact many by phone after the original letter and get things changed but it took a few months.
    • The trust deed may well also appear on the court info section - will stay there until 6 years from date the deed was set up.
HTH - let me know if you have any more questions. Best thing is to look at your file and see for yourself what's there.
  • how do i check my credit file? experian require card details but as i'm not allowed any credit i only have a straight forward bank card?

  • Just wanted to join in this topic and say i've been in my trust deed since June 08.

Its worked out great for me in the sense I will be cleared of my debts.........BUT most importantly i've LEARNED FROM MY MISTAKES. The way I budget now is amazing considering the blazee attitude I had to spending "electronic" money.

I'm glad I found this forum aswell as i'm going to be checking my credit report when I get my discharge and make sure that the dates match, etc. I would never have thought of this and I doubt my IP would have advised me of this. Just another person who would have assumed that was me clear no doubt.

Finally for me personally it was a big relief when I got my protected trust deed and also when I openly admitted everything to my OH and my mum. If anything they respect me for realising I made mistakes and being big enough to deal with them when others might bury their heads.

    Roll on 2011 :)

It really does change your life, Im the same with spending - i budget so well now, even though i have to pay quite a bit to my Trustee. Like you i have learned so much from my mistakes and i will NEVER get into a mess like i did.

If there is one piece of advise i can give anyone worrying about debt - is do something about it NOW, don't leave it until its too late. Get advice from the likes of the CAB.

My last payment is in March this year - cant believe ill be debt free this year.
    Debt Free since April 2010.

Completed my Trust Deed 24th June 2010.
  • Congrats to you both - Impulsive & Zebade ... just shows you that these debt solutions DO work. Nothing is perfect and life throws so many obstacles in peoples way that IVA's, Trust Deeds, DMPs etc will fail but not all the time - it's usually down to circumstances ...

IMPULSIVE - it really is true a problem shared is a problem halved .. when things are out in the open it's like a big weight has just been lifted off your shoulders..

And guys remember your IP/Trustee is NOT like your creditors, they understand that circumstances will throw obstacles in your path that could make life difficult or make next months payment impossible to make BUT if you just keep them informed and be honest with them they will work WITH you :)
