    1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
    2.Double-click Sounds and Audio Devices.
    3.Check Show volume control on the taskbar.
    4.Click OK.

    yea that migh work. try restoring to a date you knew theey were there

    1.Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
    2.Under Pick a Task, click Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
    3.Follow the instructions on the wizard.

    Take it back a week reboot and see if they come back.. if not try another week and so on
