Do understand why, but my neice when she was young loved olives, and now my 3rd old monster loves them too, and goes crazy when he sees the jar.
We dont mind giving him a few now and then, but i think he had a few too many on sat nite, as they all came up later in the bed (urgh).
But DAK why kids like them? Are olives any good? Are they all fat or protein or have many good nutirents?

Me & both my children absolutely love olives, black and green ones, eat them whole from the jar!
Olives are good for healthy monounsaturated oils, and they also contain some iron as well.0 -
Just Googled 'olives nutrition' and found loads of sites.
THIS site says:
Low in calories (less than 10 calories per olive), high in vitamins A, B1, B2 and C , and also in iron and calcium -- all necessary for the normal function of the human body. Aminoacids present are essential to human nutrition; specific unsaturated fatty acids have vitaminic value for the human body while the bitter element "oleuropein" stimulates appetite.
And THIS site says:
The Good
This food is very low in Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Calcium and Copper, and a very good source of Iron.
The Bad
This food is very high in Sodium.

When I'm feeling rich I get the posh ones packaged in oils and herbs, from a stall in Borough Market (London). They're gorgeous and I think they're not as salty as the tinned sort, which are in brine. I might be wrong there.
My son loves olives, but then he'll eat damn near anything ;D He always comes away from the olive stall clutching a pot of gherkins, weird kid ::)0
