help with breadmaker recipe

Options
I used to own a breadmaker which broke about 2years ago.

I recently bought a new one but I am not very impressed with the wholemeal recipe included.

My old maker used dried milk in the recipe and it made delicious bread.

This one uses water, vegetable oil, salt, flour, sugar, dried yeast.

Does anyone have a breadmaker recipe for wholemeal bread that they like.

thanks

:xmastree:

I do have a nice one. I'll look it out if there isn't one in the index that you like.

For the record, I believe that the powdered milk is just for flavour and a bit more nutrients. I never bother with it and it's fine. But some people use crushed vitamin C tablets in wholemeal recepies so that might help.

Expect hundreds of replies on this one.

You will find that most recipes include sugar, salt, oil, water, flour and dried yeast....as these are all the things that bread needs in order to grow properly. I do use milk powder in mine as well....however some people leave it out. So I don't see why you couldn't simply add a couple of tablespoons of it to your mix.

  • Use your old recipe - but add the ingredients in the order that your new machine advises (dry then wet, or wet then dry) and give it a whirl.

  • I haven't got my old recipe book so I can't remember the exact ingredients. I am sure that I did not use vegetable oil either

  • Ok then here goes with a three-quarters wholemeal recipe that I like:

    1 tsp yeast
    12oz/350g strong wholemeal flour
    5oz/150g strong white flour
1.5 tbsp sugar (I use demerera)
    1oz/25g butter
    1.5 tbsp milk powder
    1.5 tsp salt
200mg vitamin C (1 crushed tablet or 1/4 tsp powder)
    0.75pt/360ml water

    There you go :D
