No - but it does rather depend on the property, & if you are a good LL
I used to let out 3 flats that were above my own. Never had a shortage of tenants. Just had to draw the line at when they could knock on my door with a problem, & that being locked out at 3am drunk was their own bl**dy fault, & should not wake me up demanding a spare key.0 -
Um yep! I keep my property nice and clean, have nothing to hide but my (lovely) LL lives very close by and quite often gives a quick knock and pops in.
It's very unsettling.
Like I said, nowt to hide and she's a lovely lady but you do sometimes feel like you are "being watched" even if totally unfounded it's a funny feeling lolSadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.0 -
My daughter lived next door to her landlord in her first year at uni. It was great because they could just easily get him if they had any problems and he was really lovely. The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.0

No! Even if she lives nearby, she MUST still give you 24 hours notice. Next time she knocks, say you are just on the loo/in the shower/on your way out. She's not the pouffy cushion LL from another thread is she?0 -
I had a landlady once who had inherited a big old house from her mother. Her son had the entire ground floor and worked from home as a music teacher there. The landlady and her husband lived across the road, 25 yards from the property and in direct line of sight. The landlady's husband worked from home as an accountant. The property to rent was 6 separate bedsits sharing 2 bathrooms on two floors (1st and 2nd). The landlady was in/out of the property all day long, letting herself into her son's ground floor flat through the communal entrance.
She would also let herself into the bedsits to empty the coin meters (no warning) and any tradesmen etc were just let in (I came home once to find somebody glossing my door with the door wide open and my yesterday's pants and tights on the floor where I'd got changed in a hurry).
She was just omnipresent and you did feel very much watched.0 -
sooz, yes I am more aware of what should and shouldn't be done, (thanks to many folks like you) good god when my contract comes up for renewal it'll be fun!
I now know I only have to give 1 months notice not 2 (as stated in my contract)
My deposit is not held in a protected scheme.
My personal favourite however was my Inventory that i didn't sign because it was given to me as an Itinerary.
God bless MSE to help people like me that didn't know better. (i figured the itinerary bit out tho lol)
And what's the pouffy cushion thing cos I def want to read that lol
Thanks soozSadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.0 -

I can not find the thread but we had one a few months ago about a LL who was complaining that their Ts did not fluff and place the cushions correctly. They actually complained to the T about this (amongst other equally stupid things) during an inspection.0 -
My LL apparently walked into the house i'm renting now when the previous tenant was lying on the sofa watching TV and told him to hoover up lolSadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine.0

my landlord lives in the flat above mine
he's fantastic when it comes to fixing things - he's round in a flash but it also has it's down-sides.....
he came to look at a problem with the washing machine and gave me a telling off because in an attempt to clear the floor for him I had placed a bottle of white vinegar (good for smelly towels) on top of the fuse box
he came to look at the dishwasher and gave me a telling off because I kept the iron under the sink
I've got a Gas Instructions, Electric Instructions, Water Instructions and Water Purging notice in the utility room along with a water detector alarm
he's an engineer by trade and is so health and safety conscious it's mad but at least I know that when something breaks he fixes it0
