    Hi balloo.

Is your windows a genuien verson or a copy?
Microsoft distibutes Internet Explorer 7 as a high-priority update via Automatic Update.. have you got your update set to Automatic ?

Do you know what version of Windows you are using? IE7 doesn't like anything older than XP SP2, but I would have thought that it'd come up with a warning message before install rather than just screwing up.

@ kev1n3 yes my windows xp home is a genuine version.
@ SJames its definately XP SP2 Maybe SP3?? or is that sp3 for office. The only warning it gives me when i am downloading it is b4 the install it says that older IE must be uninstalled then when it starts to install about half way through it stalls and an error message appears saying something cannot be installed but i can do it manually and it tells me how to go to etc etc but the page will not open by this time to go to watever it said to do manual. it flickers and just a black blank screen. anyway if you 2 cannot help any further thanks for taking the time to try. :T this is the last automatic update i can see for IE i copied and pasted it. Windows XP Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 for Windows XP (KB956390) status_successful.gif15 October 2008 Automatic Updates. The other thing i am afraid of is i might be useing the wrong words for things and confusing things even more :-)

  • An odd problem indeed. Best to set updates to automatic to, well, keep everything up to date.

However I fear that may not solve the current problem. The simplest solution I can see is to download Firefox and use that as your browser. Does all the things Internet explorer can do (some say better) and is free. It may avoid the problems that internet explorer is having.

If you give up in the end, i would recommend mozilla firefox as a additional web browser.

Same design as Internet Explorer, just not made by microsoft and free of charge to install.

Its obtainable from search in google.
