On the bright side, your GP has identified the possiblity of your having a sleep disorder. I took nearly a year of fortnightly visits to my GP seeing half a dozen doctors, describing textbook symptoms and a week in intensive care before anyone identified mine (dispite the fact I am in a high risk catagory). I'd push to get tested asap as you will feel so much better when treated if thats what you've got.
If you think your GP is a misterable old bigot, find yourself a better a doctor. It took my a long time to find one I liked (female, similar age to myself and not ashamed to admit when she doesn't know -but will jolly well ring me once she's found out type) she's worth ten of the other kind any day.0 -
i would listen to the GP advise and get on with life0

One thing though....sadly there are actually more straight folk in Britain with HIV than gay folk and you can catch HIV and hepatitis without being gay or without sleeping around (For example, you can catch hepatitis by sharing razors or by getting tatooed with an unclean needle.) It can make you very tired and run down which could be the clinical reason for the doctor wanting to get you tested.
It may be the case but that is simply because more men are straight than gay, the Health Protection Agency report at the end of 2006 reads:
HIV infection rate of men who have sex with men (London) - 23.3% (up from 20.5% in 2005)
HIV infection rate of hetrosexual men (London) - 0.57% (down from 0.60% in 2005)
HIV infection rate of men who have sex with men (Outside London) - 10.0% (up from 5.8% in 2005)
HIV infection rate of hetrosexual men (Outside London) - 0.15% (down from 0.19% in 2005)
So you can see how sexual orientation has a huge bearing on HIV infection rates, I have to admit this is the first time I have looked the figures up and was quite amazed at just how big the gap is and that it is widening at an alarming rate.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0
