Wow here is someone who is being advised to complain because the GP did what most people would like and took a wider look at your health issues!

At 26 - being overweight and having high blood pressure can potentially be very dangerous and have lots of implications for the future!!! This GP, although abrupt and a little tactless in his approach, has potentially advised you about things which could be big problems for you in the future. The blood tests would indicate if you were diabetic etc and may not be covered by the tests your consultant did.
i know its serious the problem is that its very difficult for me to do much about it , i eat resonably healthy - veg low calories etc but i cannot and do not have the phyical strength to excercise - due to my other nerve problems and back pain - so other than making me feel worse there is not a hell of a lot i can do about it at present.....
Also, being gay, can potentially have implications and so sounds relevant in a patient consulting their GP.
what implications my sexual health was not an issue before i was forced to reveal i was gay ? so why should it now
I would suggest this was actually a better consultation than the GP simply handing over a sick note and should be taken as a proactive approach to whole patient care.

Feel free to complain to the Practice Manager about his tactlessness but this whole patient approach is what the PCT/GMC have been trying to get GPs to do for years!!
he just didnt seem to care .. thats what my problem was , i see drs every two to three weeks so i dont expect to go to me made to feel worse .

it took me long enough to get them to even consider my back problem when i was in manchester and it was 1 year later a month after moving whilst in loughbrough they finally realised there was something wrong and most of the drs i have seen in loughbrough have been very pleasant and suppoerive.

    thats why im upset

Then he asked if i had a partner and did she ever say i snored to wich i replied yes but its a male partner i then got asked if i had been tested for hiv hepittatus and other conditions people associate with being gay . To which i tried to answer as best as i could.

He then just went on about how he was not going to put on my doctors notes that i was gay as people might make assumptions and my doctors notes werent secure and anyone could find out but i should tell dr when i visit that im gay

I'd complain loudly about this guy! He sounds completely out of order.

One thing though....sadly there are actually more straight folk in Britain with HIV than gay folk and you can catch HIV and hepatitis without being gay or without sleeping around (For example, you can catch hepatitis by sharing razors or by getting tatooed with an unclean needle.) It can make you very tired and run down which could be the clinical reason for the doctor wanting to get you tested.

yes i assume its falling asleep .. the thing is i am usually awake in 10mins and i will be dazed and confused etc.

I have not been tested for diabetes recently
Yep, but if you're losing conciousness you might also only be 'out' for a few minutes, but would also be dazed and confused when you came round.

Do you sweat much at night?

The reason I ask is that my father was an undiagnosed diabetic for many years, and he'd been having hypos left right and centre for years without realising it.

Horace, i agree, the doctor sounds like he needs some lessons in sensitivity and tactfullness. And it also sounds like the GP who you complained about should not be lecturing about moral issues. These are all personality issues about those doctors and i would avoid them if their attitude does not suit you. In saying that, there are probably just as many people who prefer doctors with a blunt attitude like that.

Its probably not relevant to disclose sexual orientation at every GP visit but certainly worth mentioning when having very unusual symptoms for a 26y old - symptoms of confusion, tiredness etc etc. Only so that the doctor can ask about and advise re safe sexual practices. Its about having the whole picture.

I suspect the blood tests the doctor asked you to get will include the test for diabetes. So i would make sure that was checked when you go in to get them done.

yes i sweat but that could be the fact i have the heating on
i will mention when i go to my normal dr about diabetes and see if i can get tested , it could just be hyperglycemia

I once complained to the GMC about a GP - he refused to prescribe some contraceptives to me saying that I was committing a mortal sin for not wanting children, I had to listen to a tirade about lack of morals - he made assumptions about me that I didnt like. The GMC agreed that he had been rude but they also said that signage regarding this GP should be more prominent in the surgery so that patients could avoid him if they wanted contraceptives. There was me thinking that I was doing the right thing by not having kids and yet he and others seem to think that because I am a woman that I should have kids and to not want them is abnormal:mad:
I had a similar experience; when I moved to MK I registered with the local surgery, and the GP I saw was horribly judgemental because I'd been sterilised without having had any children. Needless to say, I changed surgeries PDQ.

It's good if a doctor is thorough, but they should leave their personal prejudices outside the surgery door.

One thing that you do need to consider here is your own attitude to your sexuality and other issues. From reading other threads of yours, you are incredibly sensitive about other people's attitudes, particularly in relation to your sexuality, and you can take the most innocent comment the wrong way. (This isn't a criticism, just a constructive comment.) I still can't see anything that was said that would be worthy of complaint?

Everytime I go to the doctor, irrespective of the reason for my visit, he will check if I am up to date on my smear tests, as well as what contraception I am using, if I am still smoking etc. He isn't being intrusive, he is gathering as much information as he can to give the most suitable treatment.
    Gone ... or have I?

he then took my blood pressure which was high and so he then made comments about my weight etc .. I mentioned about back and how its extremely difficult to excercise.

Have a look at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1011759 and see how you can lose weight even if you can't exercise. The thread isn't only about Atkins - there are several different low-carb diets.
