Just spotted on BBC ticker: as title. Founded in 1751, now in administration.
I don't know why, but I find this and the 1.5 cut in interest rates very unsettling - like the world has entered a new instability.
By the way, I never buy any fine porcelain so have no partilcuar intesrest in Spode etc., it's just shocking that such an established company should go to the wall.

I bet they closed it because of the rate drop and not the fact they have not been profitable for god know how many years.

Me too - 1.5% base rate cuts are serious "oh my God, we're out of control" territory.
The MPC have access to a range of stats before they are made public - my guess is that what they're seeing is very, very grim indeed.
If we don't now see a very quick turnaround in the HPC and sustained growth in the stock market then it's time to buy some brown trousers because as George W. said "This sucker could go down".
(Remember: The panicked cuts in the States didn't turn around their markets. Their house prices continued to slump after they cut rates quickly and deeply and the DOW has undergone massive drops since then)--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

Yesterday they have got no room to manoeuvre today its out of control:rolleyes: .Me too - 1.5% base rate cuts are serious "oh my God, we're out of control" territory.
Wake up its a recession and this is what happens. Put it in to contex it is a 1.5% drop not the biggest ever is it.:rolleyes:0
