BT Mobile Call Saver Query

Third time lucky trying to post this message!!!

Ref. Martin’s latest E-Mail:

Sneakily get BT's £1.50/month Mobile Call Saver free. All mobile calls 7.5p/min

I’m a bit unsure about this, as BT obviously advertise this as an add-on to their existing packages at £1.50/month.

When you look at BT’s website, they offer, for example, a ‘12-month renewable’ Unlimited Evening and Weekend Call Plan at £10.50/month (conditions apply, such as Monthly/Direct Debit payments, paperless billing etc), with the option of adding the Mobile Call Saver at an extra £1.50/month. Ironically though, BT is also advertising the same ‘12-month renewable’ Unlimited Evening and Weekend Call Plan WITH Mobile Call Saver at £13.20/month (same conditions apply, such as Monthly/Direct Debit payments, paperless billing etc)…something wrong there if you ask me, as it obviously makes sense to go with the first option at £10.50 plus £1.50 as an add-on = £12.00/month, not £13.20/month!?!

Of course according to Martin, the best option is to get Mobile Call Saver free…apparently, all you need to do, is ask BT (before the 31/12/08) for a NEW 12-month contract (regardless of existing package type) i.e. if you already have the ‘12-month renewable’ Unlimited Evening and Weekend Call Plan at £10.50/month, that is what you will continue to pay, but with the addition of the free Mobile Call Saver…this does beg the question about cancellation charges though…according to BT’s Terms and Conditions, if you terminate your existing agreement within the 12-month period, you pay £2.70 per month (the normal cost of Unlimited Evening and Weekend Call Plan that isn’t on a renewable contract) plus line rental charges for the remaining period!!! Are cancellation charges waived if you enter into another 12-month contract???

Does this really work – can you really get Mobile Call Saver absolutely free with no catches other than renewing the package you’ve already got? Has anyone out there tried it yet and is it really that simple?

You got my head spinning there Deal Surfer (welcome to the MSE forums BTW).

    I think I'll stick with 18185.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Just didn't want to muck about setting up yet another Direct Debit - know what you mean though, 18185 appears to be offering the best deal.

Hi I was asking the same question!

I'm not good with small print :o but even if you use 18185 for your mobiles I WOULD OF THOUGHT !? if you are on a BT 12 month rolling contract would it not pay to sign up for this and start the 12 month period again, as if you forget to use 18185, you will get cheaper BT calls to mobiles in that event!!

    Do you agree?

I am wondering about cancellation charges too! Were nearly 6 months into our free Weekend and Evenings Plan contract and my BIL is 2 months, I think!

    Thanks, Speedee
  • I'm considering calling BT to ask if I can renew by existing plan for 12-months, but I bet if I ask about the Mobile Call Saver, they'll try and get me to pay the extra £1.50/month.

If I just go ahead and do it on-line, then I'm worried about the cancellation charges of my existing plan, as it appears this area hasn't been explained/looked into properly...

Again, if anyone reads this and can say for sure that you can get it for free (via Martin's recommended loop hole), please advise.

    Cheers, Deal Surfer.
  • Mobile saver is now available free as part of the evening and weekend free plan.
If you already have the free evening and weekend plan then you can add mobile saver and this will not extend your contract and you will not have an early termination fees.
the discount is just added to the account
  • Still confused...according to Martin and his recommended loop hole, the only way you get it free is by renewing your existing BT contract for another 12-months...otherwise (according to the BT website) you need to add it as part of their calling features add-on facility, but then it will cost an extra £1.50/month?? Eitherway, it's still not clear to me...is it free if you renew an existing package for another 12-months and if so, are the early cancellation charges waived - unfortunately, there was no mention of this area in Martin's recent E-Mail...
  • if you add mobile saver for no extra cost then it is added to you existing contract you do not renew and do not pay any termination charges.
  • Thanks for that, but how do you add Mobile Call Saver at no extra cost without renewing an existing package? It appears that Speedee and I are the only ones who don't know how to do it, either that, or everyone else isn't bothered about it/is using some other deal like 18185...
  • you have to call 0800800880 option 2 and request.
i have it myself i did do it online but i see now its not an online option.

    Thanks for the reply.

I was going to post the part of the BT T&C's that I found, eventually, but can't find it at the moment. I'll try again in the morning though.

    On a different tack :-

I will have to look into what I'm going to say, as it may apply to the renewable (as I think it is now called!!) Weekend and Evenings plan we're on, but after a year is up will you have to start paying for these free upgrades and add-ons, like Mobile Saver!!

Something else to check/keep an eye on!
